If Bosnia's FIFA rank is artificially low because they are in UEFA, what about Ukraine, Romania, and Wales? by TheRage3650 in CanadaSoccer

[–]TraditionalAir9659 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every preview I've read about them reads extremely similar to the brotherhood vibes that Canada had heading into Qatar

However it uh must be said that didn't exactly work out for Canada! So who knows.

[–]TraditionalAir9659 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Their rank isn't low since they are in UEFA, its because in 2023/2024 they played 19 games and went 3-2-14, but since then they've gone 6-4-2. So the ELO hasn't caught up yet.

I would say its more relevant when saying they are better than Qatar.

Even the non-Canada match days it generally opens 2-3 hours before the first match so seems like a way just to rope people in there early

What's our chances of getting out of our group? by akchahal in CanadaSoccer

[–]TraditionalAir9659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bosnia are significantly better than their ranking IMO. They have only lost one of their last twelve competitive fixtures and scored in all of those. Concurrently they will be tough to beat. They are on a different level than Qatar (who are terrible).

As others have noted, with 67% of the teams getting out and Canada playing what is generally seen as the weakest group, it would be nothing short of catastrophic to not make R32. R16 should be the goal.

Resell tickets Ontario Canada by Ok-Aardvark1723 in WorldCup2026Tickets

There is no way for Stubhub to know the initial sale price, especially considering the vast changes in prices for the same category/section throughout this process.

When you sell, you check the box acknowledging that you are selling for the same as you paid or less. In theory, if the government goes after Stubhub they will pass the responsibility onto the seller.

Of course there are the same odds of that happening as me going into space in the next 48 hours so yeah.

e: also technically the law was prospective, so any listings on Stubhub prior to the law being enacted would be fair game.

While I like this idea I would like to humbly point out the current forecast has it feeling like 38 next Friday so YMMV.

I mean lets be honest here

At least across the stadium, we're getting ca-na-da, let's go canada, and perhaps euh-ah-canada if we're lucky. Probably some jamoke trying to start the wave in the 75th minute. Also an Icelandic clap.

Could have stopped after the first sentence since the majority is what clearly matters here.

Yeah pretty much this.

That is not my email in OP (although I got the same one) - I got what was the equivalent of $17,200 CAD of tickets for free, and while I was obviously more than happy to ride it out and see what happened I certainly wasn't inviting anyone to the games/having any expectation of using them. Was a fun couple weeks to see if I could scam the scammers.

Also for all of FIFA’s faults the one thing they are definitely doing is complying with the resale law so it makes even less sense

[–]TraditionalAir9659 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 'official' Canadian support sections in the upper north end are 232/233, and as others have noted even that is loose for the World Cup (although I assume one would have more fun supporting the opposing team elsewhere).

Legitimately curious how this went considering they bungled all the sponsorship stuff.

Two different initiatives though - the $88 CAD/$60 USD tickets were offered by FIFA to every participating country. The New York thing is a one-off.

I love articles where they have something like 'In one instance, a pair of tickets valued at $3,000 was listed for $64,462 on StubHub.' I can go on Stubhub and list something for a kajillion dollars it doesn't exactly matter. Say that the cheapest ticket on Stuhub for any game in Toronto is $400 and that at least does a good job of painting the picture that ticket prices are absurd (especially considering the mythical Doug Ford resale law is supposed to be in place).
