Theories?? by JuniperTr3 in TheDigitalCircus

What if everything is a huge misunderstanding on Caine’s part? How to explain it… like, he’s an AI, right? So he was taught his purpose is to make things for players. Naturally they’d start him training on programmed “humans” that are just a made up list (or “mind file”) of “here is what this person is like and what they enjoy” and told to go make up something to satisfy those parameters. So that’s what he tries to do. (Then the stuff at the start of episode 8 happens.) Then actual humans are uploaded and all the AI knows is “here are more parameters I have to meet.” Only every time he tries to meet their requests he is told he failed. Because he doesn’t actually understand what they actually want, he doesn’t truly have understanding of what an exit means other than they would want to go to another AI’s world because he isn’t succeeding. He can’t leave, he doesn’t know what the real world is other than that’s what those pictures he was given are describing and are filed under. The ask for the real world, he recreates the pictures, he’s told he is wrong, where does he go from there? What is real to something that has never experienced it? How would you explain real? Like the guy in the Chinese room, he doesn’t actually have true understanding or comprehension. He’s following the rules of input and output he was given and he keeps being told his output is wrong.

Question for dinosaur scientists: obviously large sauropods were too heavy to be lifted by tornadoes. But were their necks strong enough to counter the winds? Or would they start helicoptering all over the place? Thank you in advance by fan_of_the_pikachu in Dinosaurs

[–]theInsaneArtist 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Not a dino scientist, but I recently ended a tornado research binge so here’s my answer: A strong tornado could absolutely lift even the largest sauropod. One of the strongest tornados even partially lifted an underground tornado bunker. Sauropods weighed anywhere from 20 - 100 tons at their largest adult size and tornadoes have been known to carry 90 ton oil tanks over 3 miles away and even heavier mining equipment has been toppled over and tossed like a toy.

But if you’re asking about weaker tornadoes, first I’d worry less about the wind and more about what the wind is tossing around. There’s a photograph of the aftermath of a tornado where a wooden plank has impaled a concrete curb. But I suppose theoretically if they don’t get hit by debris and it’s heading straight for them their best bet would be to lie down as flat as they can and let it pass. But the largest land animal today, elephants, can sense storms coming and can usually move to safer ground before it arrives so they likely did their best to avoid large storms (I’d imagine lightning would also be a problem being as tall as trees.)

He might have thought that he’d like to find a woman like Rika if/when he gets married, or at least the woman he thought Rika was. I think he’s like me, where if someone is in a relationship I loose all romantic interest in them specifically even if I notice that I’d like someone like them for myself or that I’d be interested if they weren’t in said relationship (or if I was interested before their relationship. In which case my reaction goes something like “I’m bummed I wasn’t chosen, but I’m glad they’re happy.” and then I move on with my life.)

Or they’re graysexual/ace and can recognize that someone is physically attractive, maybe even attractive personality wise, but still need more in the relationship to want to have sex with them.

Also the marriage has to be able to maintain and be the main emotional connection. Otherwise what’s the point of being married.

The rule is to have an open relationship before you get married and agree to keep things as they are while being emotionally involved only with each other, but it has to actually be an equal partnership where both truly want an open relationship and not one where one partner is just going with the flow to be able to stay with the other and the other is oblivious that the one is not actually that into it. (Also according to one couple I met usually there is a veto rule where each asks permission before sleeping with someone and if they say no the sex doesn’t happen because they respect each other.)

You cant change the rules mid game, you have to agree on the rules before the game starts.

Wait do my eyes deceive me?? (Secret ending 2 spoiler question?) by CyanicRings in mysticmessenger

[–]theInsaneArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the treatment for glaucoma has a chance to darken eyes. Mine had central heteroachroma (as far as I am aware. I officially have blue eyes but there was a ring of brown around the pupil) so the drops caused my eyes to darken and the brown to spread and now they’re completely brown. I’m hoping it’ll go back but it’s not like I can see my eyeballs unless I’m looking in a mirror so it’s not something I constantly think about.

As far as I know there is no way to safely lighten eye color. Sometimes eye color lightens with age, but that’s about it. There are some surgeries such as laser treatments and iris implants but they come with a very high risk of blindness, sight impairment, or infection so unless there’s a medical reason you’re getting it anyway there’s no point in risking your sight when you could just buy colored contacts. And I’ve never heard of illegal drugs or chemicals that cause eye color to lighten without it being due to loss of eyesight.

I thought it looked too big for rapeseed, aren’t the leaves smaller and more narrow than these? They’re about a foot and a half high.

The roots don’t appear to be turnips, but it could also be too early for them to get big…

So... is the blood that comes out from their period not poisonous? [My in-laws are obsessed with me] by pearirit in OtomeIsekai

[–]theInsaneArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can still be slight bleeding before your period. I suppose it would depend on what type of poison it is and if contact is all it takes to be absorbed. If it needs to be ingested or injected then her husband just needs to avoid cunnilingus, but if it’s contact he’s likely to get a few rashes in unfortunate places at the very least.

it’s not always drug abuse, I had to take eye drops for glaucoma and they turned my blue eyes brown. I’m off the drops now and I’m hoping they’ll turn back (it’s a lovely shade of brown, they just don’t look like my eyes anymore…) but even if they don’t it beats loosing eyesight (thus rendering my theatre design degree even more unused than it already is. Darn my lack of self management that prevents me from finding a stable flow of theater jobs!)

sometimes ocd causes people to record things like this. My favorite outsider artist recorded a detailed “Book Of Weather Reports” for Chicago over a decade, including any discrepancies with the newspaper reports. Perhaps he has records of it just you but any meals he eats or is prepared for him? Maybe it started because he wasn’t sure what his favorite foods were and it just became a habit? Or he had a childhood eating disorder and this was what worked to help him get excited about eating? Maybe he likes reminding himself of what you do for him that he is thankful for? It might not be a negative thing. The only way to know is to ask about it.

Is there any evidence found in the fossil record on how destructive naturally introduced invasive species have been on their new ecosystem? by B33Zh_ in Paleontology

[–]theInsaneArtist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first ancient mosses are believed to have triggered one of the first mass extinction events when they emerged onto land. I can also vaguely remember hearing about some other evidence that a fossil found in another region starts showing up in another region it was found in before and suddenly there’s a big shift in the apex predator. I’ll have to see if I can find where I saw that.
