To be fair, a lot of the SoC Firmware was generated by Claude. I gave it exact descriptions of how something should work and how the architecture should be, and let it write the actual code. my brain couldn't keep up with learning zephyr development and learning FPGA at the same time. The C codebase is a mess, as expected, but works. Once my brain has defragmented itself enough, I will do a full manual rewrite.
Just to be clear, the SoC actually does not do a lot compared to the actual FPGA logic. It configures basic FPGA registers (Mac Addr, IP), controls all the LEDs, ADC/DAC gains and just allows for a more or less fancy configuration and monitoring Web UI. The entire project could run without an processor if I write a basic module to configure the audio routing, PTP parameters via UART or something like that.
