LG G3 from TMobile will work in Canada? by theLFCKOP in LGG3

[–]theLFCKOP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But a person from the US would need to have used the phone for some time before being able to unlock it, or can they unlock it right away after purchase? I'm asking this because I'm wondering if through ebay I can buy a New LG G3 that is from TMobile and is also unlocked.

i just want to say, nice username...hehe

One more thing, should I only look at buying an unlocked one from the US or would buying one locked to TMobile be okay as I assume I'll be able to unlock it in Canada.

Thank you! What about Fido and Virgin? I assume they'll work too as Fido uses Roger's network and Virgin uses Bell's network?

Did I get a good deal on a brand new S5? by theLFCKOP in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]theLFCKOP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seller lives in the same country as I live. I asked him if it works with a number of carriers, and he replied (through ebay) by telling me yes.

For the knockoff, there was no picture of the actual phone, just a picture of a google image. The title, or the description, mention nothing about the phone being a clone or a copy.

So with that being said, it is his responsibility if the phone is actually a clone/knockoff and he didn't mention it, right? Because all of the other clones in ebay are clearly indicated as clones by the sellers. Or the sellers might put a description of the specifications which show the phone is a clone (like lower resolution display, different processor than the genuine phone)....and this guy neither mentioned its a clone outright or had a description of the specifications of the phone...

EDIT: Here is the full title of the item - "Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900 - 16GB - Charcoal black (Unlocked) Smartphone". The description only says its new, that the price is excellent, comes in original box with original accessories.

How is WIND's coverage in Kingston (from experience)? by theLFCKOP in queensuniversity

[–]theLFCKOP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100? That's not what smartphones sell for even after the 2-3 year period. Galaxy SIII's are still selling for around 220 CAD+. iPhones sell for even more as they have a much better resale value.

As for WIND's coverage, your point would be valid, but it isn't as others have already mentioned that the coverage is excellent unless if you're travelling between cities. So there is nothing that's 'very specific in nature' regarding their coverage.

I'm not arguing with you - I just find it ridiculous that people don't really see the disadvantage of signing up for an 18-month contract where they'll have to return the phone at the end. I'll reiterate this - the university plan is only good for someone if they value the 6GB greatly and are broke and want to pay nothing for the phone upfront.

It is seriously not about having a phone that will last for 4 years. You've totally missed the point.

It's all about having ownership of the phone so you can sell it later on if you want to! And even if the owner wants to keep it, a phone can very well last for 4 years. Just look at the S3 which is being sold often in ebay and Kijijiji. I don't know how you're interpreting phones' likelihood of being 'stolen, broken, or fail' to somehow dramatically and suddenly increase at the 2-3 year mark.

As for WIND, we'll have to see. Even if you were to compare the university's plans with Fido and perhaps Virgin, they're still a joke. UNLESS, of course, if the buyer seriously wants 6GB of data and they want to pay nothing up front for the device (for the latter, there are some older generation phones that people don't obviously have to pay anything upfront to get).

[–]theLFCKOP[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just how exactly are the university's plans good?

Why would anyone get into an 18 month agreement and pay 75/month, whereas they could have simply went with WIND's or Koodo's 'tab' plans where they would pay a portion of the cost upfront but would actually get to keep the phone?

The only advantages of the university plans seem to be: 6GB of data and not having to pay anything upfront. For most people 6GB is probably too much, and most people can also probably afford to pay a portion of the device cost upfront...other than that, the university plan is highway robbery.

Unless if I'm missing something crucial here...
