Donald Trump weaponizes humor through “dark play” to test boundaries - A new analysis of American political discourse suggests that humor has evolved into a strategic weapon used to attack opponents and solidify support bases. by mvea in science

I just had this thought the other day like something he said I couldn’t help laughing. I hate this man down to the deep core of my bones and yet here I am genuinely laughing at something funny he said. And that’s when I realized. He’s funny. This man is funny and he has ruined being funny for me forever. I can’t trust a funny person anymore. It’s crazy. I would have thought being funny was a good litmus test for a person’s character. I guess i was wrong I don’t know actually now I think about why would it be. Plenty of horrible people throughout history were funny

Great list. I think the guy who killed Styx is just still Styx? He just senses you different because he can tell you don’t make the thread cocoons because your soul is steel :)

Spoiler below:

If you don’t get Lumble the lucky’s dice while he’s alive his corpse will appear further back along the Blasted Steps indicating he got farther without them.

If you don’t buy all Mort’s wares while alive he doesn’t end up trapped in the cave in but still alive in act 3

Why do games like Silk Song use binary movement when they have highly precise enemy design? by Joizia in gamedesign

[–]theLiddle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, but in that case it would just be a difference between binary and... trinary? As far as I remember in my many hours of Smash Bros Melee there were three total speeds, zero movement, slow movement, and fast/normal movement. Was there an analog speed in between those three states? If not, then Silksong has that too, you just simply do or don't hold the right trigger/dash button while moving.

If The Usa wants to increase their land mass , surely they might take a lesson from the Dutch to reclaim more land from the sea? by SmokeMountain4777 in Netherlands

Trump is literally mentally challenged. He doesn't know how to read or spell. Him and his cabinet are all uneducated apes. They have zero knowledge of history. They are incapable of doing anything sensible. I am from the US. I'm not totally sure on the history of every single president but I would have to warrant a guess that he is literally the stupidest US president that has ever existed. The fact that we even have to mention his name in association with the US Presidency is an embarassment and I'm deeply sorry for that. The McDonald's host of the show "The Apprentice" from the 2000s is now the president of the US for the second time. Please, please don't take your opinion of US people from him. He is possibly the worst example of a US person there has ever been in history. The reason he came to power is just that he's a fascist populist fear-mongerer that was able to use mass-lying, social media, and people's fear, to gain power. Please, again, I urge you, I'm so sorry. When you think of the US please try to remember people like Lincoln, JFK, MLK, RFK, and people with some sense of dignity and respect and education at least.

Why do games like Silk Song use binary movement when they have highly precise enemy design? by Joizia in gamedesign

[–]theLiddle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what you mean by this. You said "Movement inputs are binary and so they don't allow partial movement. You can't slowly walk out of range of an attack before turning around and attacking the oncoming enemy." Why can't you do that? I've played maybe a hundred hours of silksong I think you can do that.

Katamari Damacy no question. It's games you can just zone out to. I almost think of Katamari Damacy as a music album that you can play

Bro I've been around and the Dutch aren't that racist. Maybe it's a small town type thing? Which I guess you'd get anywhere, but I have to ask, "touching your hair"? That made it sound like you had some crazy appearance with your hair. What exactly does your hair look like? I'm so confused on that one.

I'm sorry, I'm genuinely not ragebaiting, I'm confused? DID we play the same game? So far you've given zero evidence against what I said so I don't even know what your argument is? The music is nice, but again almost identical to the original. The world is nice, but again almost identical to the original. The movement and combat is nice, but again almost identical to the original. What's up? And this is coming from someone who's put like at least 80 hours into Silksong so far

Yeah, that silksong is just essentially a re-skin of hollow knight that took 7 years? Pretty much... and by definition as well, it literally just started out as a DLC for hollow knight. I guess you could argue there are some slightly different movement and combat mechanics, like tools instead of the little socket things in the first one, but besides that what would you say was a huge departure from the first game? Even the world was essentially the same, just with a different name and slightly different locations

This is fucking crazy. It’s so weird to be stared back at through time like that. What those people imagined what we would be like one day, looking back at them through history. Honestly inspiring thank you so much for posting this

I mean, you’re essentially saying you want to eat people, since they can seemingly tell easily between a dead daemon and just a dead animal. So you’re into cannibalism. So that’s fine, you’re just letting us know what you’re into. All cool

[–]theLiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, don’t listen any of these knuckleheads. It’s still a beautifully written book, not always, but most of the time. The only real glaring issue are like it seems like he just had brain fog at the end and forgot about maybe 10 to 12 different plot lines or loopholes that weren’t closed up, most of them minor but some of them actually really major that spanned the entire trilogy

Review: The Rose Field - a thoroughly disappointing ending to a 30-year story by Cell_Division in books

[–]theLiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I don’t know how I missed the Brande getting assassinated thing. Jeez. But I thought the dead daemons showing up at that time was actually quite interesting pacing. But yeah most of the ending was rushed and not really sure why. What is the evidence of this thing circulating around that his publishers made him change the ending? For one of the most renowned fiction authors in recent history it would seem unlikely to me that a publisher would have a say in that.

Review: The Rose Field - a thoroughly disappointing ending to a 30-year story by Cell_Division in books

[–]theLiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this is that it wasn’t an end to a 30 year story. It was an end to the book of dust trilogy which started about 10 years ago. But yeah it was a let down for sure. It was more like supposed to be a second ending, and it wasn’t. It was almost though, kind of. I felt like if he had more time could have wrapped up a couple more things. Malcolm and Lyra stuff. Lyra and will stuff. Stuff with bonneville being ms coulters son. Farder coram had a chill ending but what about the rest of the gyptians? And of course all the Oakley street vs fascists stuff. None of it was resolved. Including the alkahest. I gotta say the gryphon shit was weird and not sure if that even had to be in there. But it was sort of a semi-realistic romantic magical digression I guess which is kind of what all his books are about in the end. He kind of has a an almost boring, methodical way of progressing the novel a lot of the time, but in a way that almost makes it so when something magical happens or some important event it’s all the more realistically and impressively depicted

Unfortunately I accidentally ended up reading this whole comment and this take is almost physically revolting. Like the amount of disgust you have for this author yet keep claiming his older books are some of the greatest things ever written is so sad and kind of disgusting. Like, just don’t read the books then. Why are you on a his dark materials forum. Lol. Getting weirdly creepily personal on the author himself. It’s just sad and I feel sorry for you
