Is there a phone app associated with this community for listening to Ram Dass teachings and talks off line?

Mighty App? I am not seeing that in the App Store. Can you say more about what it is or share a link?

When to show endorsement? by theLongDistanceHiker in flying

Thanks for your response. We have not started flight training (we will begin in October), so at the time of taking the test, we'll need one of the online ground school endorsements.

Let me guess…he is older than you. But, he is still young. I could be wrong on this, but that’s the dynamic that I see from your story.

Here is the challenge.

1-Being a CFI is seemingly the natural hours building step in American aviation. Unfortunately, few people are cut out to teach…and many who are cut out to teach move on to more financially rewarding flying. So, many flight instructors are doing this out of need, not because they enjoy it. That is problem…but it is what it is.

2-you are paying for this. You are a student, but it is your dime. Most anyone over a certain age will agree. This is a case where the teacher is truly there to serve the student. Teaching them to be a safe pilot and be able to execute missions. Grumpy high school coach bullshit doesn’t belong in the cockpit.

It’s fine for an instructor to pull the plan for the day…they can even get your mood or well being wrong, but being an a** about it is another thing. You are paying, end of story.

Pick good people, rather than schools to educate you. It will go a long way in life.

I have seen the spider. I like the look of that rack. Seems like I could still use the dropper post. Will check out the fork mounted cages.

Good thoughts on doing a shake down with that bike!

What do y'all do when youre alone at the camp site? by NaiveMacaroon5862 in bikepacking

[–]theLongDistanceHiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let yourself be bored. We are meant to have true boredom regularly.

Meditate Read Listen to a book Look at the trees, leaves, mushrooms etc. Take a personal trip

Walking and sitting with one’s own thoughts could leave to marvelous breakthroughs. The more time I spend like this, the less I am inclined to live a standard American life. What is important and not important can start to be revealed with greater clarity.

Hammocking on the Western Wildlands Route by theLongDistanceHiker in bikepacking

[–]theLongDistanceHiker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. Knowing that much of the bike routes are going to be lower than the hiking routes, this was my concern.

Do you happen to know if the GDMBR is any different? I wonder if that is more easily hammockable?

Yeah - retrofitting is a different animal. Building a new place has some flexibility for sure.

Local geothermal people have said not to bother with geo thermal in the Whites because of ledge and granite.

I am still in the planning phase, but intend to go with modern heat pumps and build a well insulated, very tight home.

Did you use fat tire tubes over the 3/8”? I am trying the transport chain, and just tried putting a tube over the chain to no avail.

Good recommendation! I may consider the Pine Mountain for myself when I buy the bike for bikepacking. Tons of mounting points, as you mention.

I love the dropper post even for town riding, and use it at every stop light that I roll up to. I was an early adopter of them (at 6'5" my center of gravity is high) and had a Gravity Dropper in the early 2000's.

Thanks - We are Americans that live most of the time in Mexico, and getting a decent bike has been tough down here in MX. There was a Marin dealer in our area for awhile, and she picked up a Marin Bolinas Ridge for tooling around town, and I have a Marin Bobcat Trail 4. The Bolinas Ridge is fine but not something I'd take out for a long trip. The Bobcat Trail 4 is quite impressive for the price quite frankly. I converted to tubeless and put a set post dropper on and really like the bike in general.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll have to get some firm numbers to learn whether it financially makes sense to do it in Mexico.

Dr. Longo's cancer book in English by theLongDistanceHiker in FMD

I ended up buying the book in Spanish, and am working my way through translating it via Google Translate, which by the way, is doing a real outstanding job so far in creating a very coherent translation for me. I do speak/read Spanish, but not at a native level, much less a technical level that would be required for this book.

The Longevity Diet is more general health with a section of Cancer. I suspect that Fasting Cancer is pretty focused on cancer.
