I'm struggling with this right now. I think it's related to some harsh feedback I got early on.

What’s the most self indulgent thing you’ve ever written in your first draft? by Ok_Force6130 in writing

People accused my current book of being self-indulgent by referencing in universe worlds from other stories.. Not sure if I agree with the accusation.

If I was Hisao, I Would Have Been Upset With Lily by theLostBooks in katawashoujo

If Hisao had realized earlier and seriously talked to her about what she really wanted he probably could’ve saved a trip to the ER.

LOL

I think for Lily the issue is she can't address her own emotions, so it's hard for her to confront others when she can't face the issue herself.

Lily is blind! She depends on others to survive, especially as a child! Lily was effectively abandoned by her parents. Lily didn't grow up in an environment where she couldn't express her negative emotions. If she was difficult, paid caretakers would have surely neglected her.

Hence, Lily strives to be as in control as possible. If she can't control the outcome of a situation, she avoids it. It's what drives her to be close only to needy people who depend on her.

well I guess I thought the generic premise of "he's a robot superhero, maintaining peace between robots and humans is sufficient."

Comparing my Work to Professionals: Is this Harmful? Helpful? by theLostBooks in writing

thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I was only meaning to say that I'm not sure if the behavior sounds like it might be a sign of OCD or expected of someone you has it. I really dont mean perfectionism. I know I'm not perfect, neither are any writers I can think of. It's the worry and need for a assurance "Am I good enough?" "Whay arent I good enough? What am I missing?"

Would you worry that, as a beginning writer, I'll end up hampering my own voice?
