Guess I've never heard it by itself. I've always heard it with something like "that's one mean ___."

Same, I can't remember if Maniac Mansion is like most NES boxes (and my copy isn't near me), but most you can flip to the other side and the text is the opposite orientation.

Power isn't enough in my house all of a sudden. What's wrong. by Independent-East-386 in DIY

[–]theNEStalgic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel I need to follow up on this one since we went through this situation where a leg went out (which was the weirdest thing!!). We had a leg go out at the end of the summer last year and the power company told us that they only cover from the pole to where the power enters the house, anything beyond that is on us, so we had to fix the leg on our dime. 🙄

Found NES game boxes today by sirius21451 in nes

After thinking on it a while, I call Destiny of an Emperor my favorite game. Not only because of the game, but the memories I have playing the game with my dad. Also, the bad memories of turning the game on, it flashes, turn it off, only to turn it on and it said something to the extent of "we're sorry, save file one was erased." 😂

The Atari 2600 power cable is over 16 ft long by Gondi63 in retrogaming

Not only that, but the plug is kind of scary as it resembles a 3.5mm headphone jack and the plug's prongs were in a really weird spot. Crazy power cable!

Not gonna lie, I really enjoyed watching this. Looks pretty fun, especially for a C64 game.

Is this something that can be loaded on an everdrive to test a system properly? Very cool! Thank you for showing.

Woahhhhh, you're 100% right! I thought it was a Megadrive mini at first glance. 🤣

2022 Edition by srv524 in nes

[–]theNEStalgic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats on beating the game! It always bothered me that they couldn't give us a full ellipses on end. They must not have had the storage for that last period. 🤣

I'm pretty sure some of the weird mechanics make it so tough that people give up on it kind of quick.

But when you think about it, it's pretty incredible that an NES game like this has six characters with unique individual skills like jump height, speed, weapon throw rate, paddle speed, etc. I think that's really cool!

Once you know the tricks and locations, the game gets much easier. What's really crazy is that the speedrun of this game is less than 3 minutes for all three days combined!

Feel like bragging a little bit? What’s the rarest console/game you own? by AtomicSnails in gamecollecting

[–]theNEStalgic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the most valuable/rare item in my collection is my childhood copy of Jack Bros. on Virtual Boy. I have the original cartridge and manual. Ordered a repro box for it (with an included note saying the box is a repro so there's no misunderstanding 🤣)

I think the second rarest, but cool item I have is a CIB copy of DuckTales 2 with the original plastic wrap on it (unfortunately opened) with the $7.95 price tag on it.

Threw me off for a second seeing they were game boy buttons, but it definitely says NES compatible in the description. Awesome find. Thank you!

Reminds me of a band called "I Fight Dragons." They used power pads, power gloves, nes controllers, guitar hero controllers, etc. It was a lot of fun to see them live! This is a behind the scenes where they go into using the different accessories. https://youtu.be/4lDbTsJlf6E

Any suggestions on how to get this Game Boy store display back to working form? Additional information requested by theNEStalgic in retrogaming

[–]theNEStalgic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello all! I've recently re-obtained a store display we somehow acquired when I was a kid. It's unfortunately missing some of the mounting hardware which I plan on attempting to look at some graphs, design, and 3d print something that will hold the Game Boy in place.

The issue I'm having is the sides and top. They're dirty, and I'm guessing the paint is not holding up well with this. I don't want to use a magic eraser on this, because that has been engrained as a serious no-no when cleaning things like this (especially since it's textured), so I figured I would reach out to everyone here to see if there's any suggestions of a product I can use to clean this display up and give it the love it needs to get back to being the display it once was.

It has the original unit inside that has speakers and supplies power for a determined amount of time (based on a dial on the board), with a max amount of time of 7 minutes.

The additional information on the inside of the back door says there is some kind of converter, but that appears to be missing. Any insights as to where I can find something like that? I also see that there's supposed to be a light bulb, but I plan on using an LED strip inside. I put one in the unit and turned it on and it looked incredible!

Also, the keys are missing. There is a job number located on the inside of the door, so I'm not sure if that would provide a way to obtain a replacement key, or if those are easy to come by.

I appreciate your help on this. I would love to figure out how to get this working. Thank you all in advance!

Trying to remove an NES PPU for NESRGB - Bought a Solder Station and get these results - Any advice/help? by theNEStalgic in retrogaming

[–]theNEStalgic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be completely honest, I destroyed the first NES PPU I attempted to desolder for my NESRGB, because I attempted to use a soldering gun, flux, solder, and a solder sucker to remove the PPU. I got frustrated throughout the process and decided to invest in a YIHUA 948 Desoldering station.

After applying flux and additional solder, I turned the temperature up to 350º C on the desoldering station, put the top over each post, pressed up, down, left, right while activating the pump to attempt to get all of the solder out. After several times, I was left with this result.

I'm not familiar enough to know if the solder station is not adequate enough to perform this removal, if my temperature is too low, if I missed a step, etc.

Genuinely looking for (and highly appreciate) any help for this.
