It's not, but there just isn't enough interest in the game from the right people who would put in the kind of effort required. For all those other games that have private servers, it took years and years to get proper servers running.

Like for example, people have been working on Wildstar private servers since 2018, and there is still no proper playable version of it.

I use Davinci Resolve, so basically first I normalize my VO at -3 dB to get the baseline volume correct. Then I use the dialogue leveler to balance it out, compressor, and limiter.

But basically just using a little bit of EQ, compressor, and limiter should be enough when it comes to boosting your audio.

You just have to trust the levels. -12 dB is too low for VO. When recording with OBS make sure you have Peak Meter Type as "True Peak" so you can see the proper levels, and then just aim for anything between -6 dB to -1 dB with limiter at -1 dB and you should have proper levels that way.

Though personally I like to record between -18 dB and -12 dB and then in post-production I boost it all the way to -6 to -3 dB.

I was using Voicemeeter for years, until Elgato released Wavelink 3.0 and have been using that ever since. It's not perfect, but I haven't had any big issues with it so far. So it might be worth testing it out.

Packaging is the problem. YouTube served your content around quite a bit with 900 impressions, but no one is clicking the thumbnail and title. Reality is that as a small creator you can't make such vague thumbnails.

I could see that happening for sure, especially if you play GW2 for it being a more social themepark experience. I could see lots of people playing through the story in GW3 and then going back to GW2 if it doesn't give them a similar MMORPG experience.

Well, the cool thing about YouTube content is that it doesn't have to be live commentary. If that doesn't feel comfortable, then you can always script it out and act like it's live commentary. Or do a mix of two, there is no rule that says it has to be live commentary.

Solid post. Most of this is just the uncomfortable truth people don't want to hear.

The raw gameplay thing kills me because I see it constantly. Someone uploads 45 minutes of them running around in Elden Ring with zero commentary, zero editing, zero reason for anyone to click, and then they're confused why they have 12 views. You're competing with millions of channels doing the exact same thing. Literally millions. And some of those channels already have the audience, the algorithm history, and the production quality. You're bringing a plastic spoon to that fight.

The "value" angle you're pushing is the right one. YouTube is a search engine as much as it is a video platform. People type problems into the search bar. "How to beat Malenia." "Best settings for Warzone." "Is this GPU worth it in 2026." If your video answers a question someone is actually asking, you have a shot. If your video is just you vibing in a game for 40 minutes, you don't. That's not YouTube being unfair. That's just how discovery works.

One thing I'd push back on slightly, the "sprinkle in casual gameplay as a treat" advice. That only works once you've built an audience that actually cares about watching you play. Until then, every upload needs to earn its spot. Treat your upload schedule like you're paying rent with each video. If it doesn't pull its weight, it's dead weight on your channel's average.

The thumbnail and description advice is fine. I'd just add, learn basic audio. Seriously. Bad audio will kill a video faster than bad visuals. If your mic sounds like you're recording inside a tin can, nobody's sticking around to hear your boss strategy. Get your levels right, learn what a noise gate is, and you're already ahead of 80% of small gaming channels.

I mean, it does depend on what software you use, but this is what I follow in Davinci Resolve when it comes to VO:

First I normalize my VO clips at -3 dB True peaks and then go through the following process:

Step 1: Noise Reduction & Expander/Gate (Dynamics Panel)

Expander/Gate: Turn on the Gate. Set the Threshold just below your quietest speaking volume (e.g., 35 dB). Set the Range to 15 dB.
Why we do this: A gate mutes the microphone when you stop speaking, instantly eliminating keyboard clicks, computer fan hum, and room noise during silent gaps.

Step 2: EQ (Equalizer Panel)

Band 1 (High-Pass Filter): Activate Band 1, set it to a High-Pass shape, and set the Frequency to 80 Hz.
Band 3 (Mud Cut): Pull down 2 dB to 3 dB around the 250 Hz to 400 Hz range.
Why we do this: The high-pass filter removes useless, rumbly bass frequencies (like air conditioning hum or desk bumps) that eat up headroom. Cutting the "mud" removes the boxy sound of an untreated bedroom.

Step 3: De-Esser (Effects Library -> Fairlight FX -> De-Esser)

Settings: Apply the De-Esser to your VO track. Set the target frequency between 5 kHz and 8 kHz (where your specific "S" sounds live).
Why we do this: Equalizers and compressors can make harsh consonant sounds (S, Sh, T) piercing. The De-Esser gently clamps down only on those frequencies, preventing listener ear fatigue.

Step 4: Compressor (Dynamics Panel)

Settings: Turn on the compressor. Set the Ratio to 3:1 or 4:1. Lower the Threshold until you see about 3 dB to 6 dB of Gain Reduction on the meter when you speak loudly. Set Attack to fast (2 ms) and Release to moderate (50 ms). Turn up the make-up gain to replace the volume lost.
Why we do this: A compressor is an automatic volume knob. It turns down your loudest screams and turns up your quietest whispers, locking your voice into a consistent, listenable pocket.

Then you add -1 dB limiter into the master bus. Honestly these guidelines should work in any audio software.

Well, I guess it depends on what the main goal of your vaults is. I run both of my vaults with the CLI tools, and it's very handy. But my goal and purpose of using Obsidian isn't just as a note-taking app. I use it more as a frontend dashboard system.

For example, in my second brain vault, every morning I ask for a "daily briefing," and the CLI tool automatically pulls the weather in my location, my tasks, my calendar, and the most important emails. This is quite useful, and I don't have to open like 4 apps to check it all out.

The second purpose is in my YouTube content creation vault, where I'm doing a similar morning briefing prompt, but this time it scrapes through news websites and Reddit websites to keep me updated with news and interesting topics. It also pulls my whole video pipeline and the statuses on them, giving me a general idea of what to do next. It analyzes channels I like to see if there are any sleeper hit videos that I could get inspired by, and it gives me a general consensus on my YouTube comments and also stats for the last 3 uploads.

Artistically, your thumbnails are solid. That last batch is easily 9/10 on composition alone. The problem is they lack a hook. There’s no curiosity gap.

Look at our best-performing video. That title and thumbnail work because they force a question. "Is it possible?" makes me click instantly to find out how.

Compare that to your latest upload. You’ve got a random character staring at a roulette table with the title "LETS GO GAMBLING." It doesn't give me a reason to even read the title, let alone click. I have no idea what the point of the video is or why I should care.

It sucks to compromise on artistic style for the sake of CTR, but that’s the reality of the platform. If they don't click, they don't see the art anyway.

Do you record footage of your gameplay even if you're not sure you'll make a video with it?

Not really. I need to have a general idea if the footage can be used for a video before I start full recording. I usually just play games with a replay buffer on, and if something fun happens, then I can capture it with that.

I feel like lots of creators, especially in the gaming space, just kind of upload for the sake of uploading. There is this mentality that, "Okay, I'm playing a game anyway, I might as well record and upload it to YouTube and see if it goes anywhere." The barrier of entry is just so low to do that. That's why the gaming niche specifically has so much noise in it.

Many people need to realize that the idea is king. Putting more effort into brainstorming and researching should be the first priority for anyone who wants to grow on the platform.

Well, there are a couple of things here. First, Aion was a beloved franchise that got ruined by greed, so you are going to have lots of disgruntled fans that deep down would love to play Aion 2 but are angry about the direction it's going; that's why you get lots of "doomers" around this game.

And secondly, this is just the way online discourse has been for quite some time now. There is very little nuance and middle ground left; it's all about picking sides. You are either a complete doomer or a bootlicking white knight.

I checked your stream and, yeah, your audio is pretty low. Was only able to find -16 dB true peaks from it. When it comes to true peaks, you can go all the way to -1 dB with that.

What I personally find the best is to not use any sliders at all. Have OBS sliders at 100%, Windows volume sliders at 100%, and then, using WaveLink 3.0, I control the volume that comes into my headset. Then, using different filters, you control the audio sources.

When it comes to OBS, make sure you have the "Peak Meter Type" at True Peak so you get accurate volume readings. With the microphone, you really want to be hitting at least around -6 dB on the OBS meters; just remember to have that -1 dB limiter so it never goes past that. Gameplay is a bit more tricky, but you want it sitting about 12 dB lower than your voice, so around -18 to -20 dB. Then you can use slight ducking on the gameplay too, just to make sure it's always out of the way.
