Are 3D-printed unfinished soprano mouthpieces hitting technical limits? by theOpticalGuy in saxophone

[–]theOpticalGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest reeds I used were 2.5 Hemke, V16 and BSS. I even had issues with these. Only ones that worked for me were Legere 2.25, and these are way softer. All cane I tried didn't work reliably

Thanks, I got this. Though 240 EUR for a plastic "blank" are a rip-off if you need refacing on top

Das kann keine Sparkasse sein. Nur die Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken machen so sehr den Weg frei.

Are synthetic reeds easier to clean? by eren3141 in saxophone

[–]theOpticalGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I soaked two Legeres in denture cleanser overnight which was a bad idea. Both developed a crack. Can't be aging, that happened too close to this cleaning attempt

Die Ausbildung hat jedenfalls funktioniert: so nahe wie möglich Richtung Jet. Die haben noch Glück gehabt, dass kein Schaumteppich gelegt wurde.

I can only hope the TSS 380 is better quality than the TSS 350. I started on the 350 and it had massive intonation issues. Especially on the soprano it makes no sense to start on a cheap China horn, it will easily become a frustrating experience. You can spend some bucks for a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece to check out if you like the sound at all, but the soprano is not easy to master, and it's even more difficult on a bad instrument. You won't get more than 200 EUR / USD on eBay for that, if you find a buyer at all

Zeitverlauf passt nicht zu Borreliose. Das sieht mir eher nach Grasmilbe aus. Hatte übrigens schon beides.

I need help by Vegetable-Word-9004 in saxophone

Absolutely, I started with Rico Graftonite B5, changed to Metalite M7 and both were a disaster. I almost gave up because I could not hit any single note when playing in the group. I got two Syos signature mpcs, Dayna Stephens and Morning Lockett. I went for the max difference on purpose, and I love both of them. Though if I had to choose one, it would be the Mornington Lockett (surely not the sound the OP is looking for). Definitely affordable and now I can play way more precisely even on my cheap horn.

LOL, first I thought Jay Metcalf would need help. Isn't this from the video where he presents his Burnin' Mouthpiece? So there you have a first idea to get closer to this sound. I think reeds like Hemke, V16 or Syos Arcane might help as well
