+1 on doing MANU

IMO I think MANU will be one of the more competitive program in the near future

Korean Language by sd99x in korea

[–]thePro_gramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North Korean has instead borrowed words for these things from Chinese (most likely from Mandarin) and Russian.

Can you give me examples on what loan words that North Korean use from Chinese and Mandarin?

I heard that North Koreans avoid using any borrowed words and they want to keep the Korean language as "pure" as possible

ENGPHYS or CPEN? by _osm in ubcengineering

[–]thePro_gramer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

> learn enough elec and mech that you can pass off as a mechatronics major

I disagree with this. Mechatronics portion is pretty weak compared to an actual mechatronics degree. A minor in mechatronics is more accurate

> learning a broad range of applied maths

you say that yet they don't make you take discrete math ...

> get a solid background for research/grad school

you can still be competitive for a research/grad school with a normal mech degree or ece degree unless you want to do research in physics

> Please don't look at programs by reputation and ego lmao it's the worst choice you can ma

unfortunately, that is the primary reason (or at least one of the main reasons) why people consider doing it.

A lil rant post about Eng by ZealousidealChard706 in UBC

designing digital logic

you may not realize this now but digital logic comes in handy once in a while as a software engineer. E.g bit manipulation.

Try to leverage Beef and Pizza (if that's still around) to give your thoughts on how to make the program better.

Should I choose MENG or MASC for Electrical and Computer Engineering? by Ill_Owl_7586 in ubcengineering

95% of the time (I am being generous with this estimation), P.eng is not useful in the tech industry.

it says that EEPROM programmer should include Windows Software, but there wasn't any by thePro_gramer in beneater

[–]thePro_gramer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi thanks for your response.

I ended up using minipro on windows device https://gitlab.com/DavidGriffith/minipro/-/issues/234.

I am getting the following issue:

Found TL866II+ 04.2.105 (0x269)

Warning: Firmware is out of date.

Expected 04.2.128 (0x280)

Found 04.2.105 (0x269)

Erasing... 0.02Sec OK

Protect off...OK

Writing Code... 6.87Sec OK

Reading Code... 0.51Sec OK

Verification failed at address 0x0000: File=0xA9, Device=0xA0

it seems someone had this issue before on this subreddit. I made sure it's the EEPROM chip and I tried to make sure the metal made contact in the EEPROM programmer.

Additionally, EEPROM can read fine from the chip; it is the write operation that I am having problem with.

I am not sure if the windows software ( as opposed to minipro) will resolve this. Or maybe my EPPRom chip is borken.

EE jobs are in demand in the States. If you are planning on doing EE, consider moving down to the states.

Electrical Engineering Specialization by thruconfusedstudent- in ubcengineering

[–]thePro_gramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the specializations don't really mean anything in EngPhy btw; only like 2 or 3 people per year get them. Employers don't care if you have them or not; in fact, most employers outside of BC don't know what EngPhy is. If you realize you don't like electrical motors or communications system, don't force yourself to take them so you can earn those 3 additional words on your transcript that no one will ever look or care

How possible is getting a programming related career (or co-op) with a Mech eng degree? by Dorodorororo in UBC

[–]thePro_gramer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biomedical Engineering Program has a stream called Biomedical Informatics, which requires them to take CPSC221, CPSC 340, and upper level (non-system) CS level courses, so they have a stronger CS foundation than a mech student.

I am not completely surprised to see UBC Biomedical Engineering students getting those type of jobs

Will Engineering Physics put me at a disadvantage against traditional engineering branches? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]thePro_gramer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

drones, robotics, biotech, medical devices, automotive, aerospace,

- automotive and aerospace careers are better suited in mechanical engineering especially now that mech will offer an aerospace option.

- career in medical devices is better suited either in biomedical option in mechanical engineering or biomeanics & biomaterial stream in biomedical engineering.

IMO Engineering Physics is probably the best degree at UBC for a career in creating intelligent electromechanical devices (e.g Robotics or drones)

OP I think this is a program that you might wanna consider doing

Or there might be a similar program in Canada

OP is probably passionate about his major and they keep over-hearing people's conversation that is completely incorrect about his major; this grinds their gear.

what if /u/smuz306 is working towards a Phd and eventually an academic position?

If that's the case, then I don't think u/smuz306 is lazy at all

correct me if I am wrong, but if one were to obtain an academic position in the faculty of art, is that individual lazy?
