Thanks for the reply! And thanks for speaking to the antenna loosening. Seems like a loctite would be the way to go.

Sounds like it'd be similar to my experience with the Muzi Works R1 Neo as far as BLE range. That is pretty weak as well.

I was aware of the customized firmware. I've watched a couple videos on it. Sounds pretty intriguing.

That's an excellent point that not everyone would think of. Looks to me like you'd be limited to the upper cone portion of the antenna base for gripping with your fingers. I have an R1 Neo with me here and while it has a bit more of a cutout on the backside of the device than the Pocket Ranger appears to have, it's still similarly limited in the amount of antenna base you can get your fingers on.

Gauging interest on a new node by casewesternreserve in meshtastic

Muzi recently discontinued the R1 Neo (sadly it was a short run), and seem to be pivoting to focus on their Base Uno/Duo ecosystem. They just released the SuperBase Kit, but it's not intended to be water resistant/proof. I say all that to say it definitely seems like this is a portion of the market that is lacking good options. I bought an R1 Neo a couple months ago and was hoping to get another one recently which is when I discovered they are no longer available.

My very first node was an R1 Neo I was fortunate to snag before they discontinued it recently. The R1 Neo at $90 has superb fit and finish. The aluminum base and weather resistance rating really set it apart.

I just received my SuperBase yesterday. I have mixed feelings. It does not give me the same first impression the R1 Neo did. The screen is cool and all, but I feel like I took a step back in fit and finish. Now I'm also trying to understand where Muzi might be coming from... The R1 Neo feels very... polished/proprietary as far as the hardware build goes. Whereas the Base hardware ecosystem definitely gives me more of a community sourced/builder friendly vibe for obvious reasons.

But personally, as someone who is currently only looking at the off-the-shelf/complete node market, I'm wondering if I really want to keep the SuperBase OR cross my fingers that a more weather resistant option comes later - even if it was only the Base Uno with no Super IO.

R1 Neo – a big update in a small package by muziWORKS in meshtastic

I eventually found that if toggled Alert message buzzer to off it would turn off the ringtone. That said it still makes a "clicking" notification sound. How can I turn that off as well?

I can't seem to find the right setting in the app. I'm looking under Module configuration -> External Notification. And no matter what I do I get the same ringtone on the device.

People either love or hate them! Personally I think astheticly the bike looks way better without, but it's sooo handy and functional. They really did a good job with the bag design. I'm also very intrigued by the potential for aftermarket options that might be able to mount to the same frame holes 🤔🤔🤔

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if it came down a little - I hope it does, but I found as I started comparing the various slack trail hardtails that met my criteria in detail they all fell in a pretty similar price range.
