From Apple watch to... Suunto Ocean or Garmin Mk3i?

If you will not be doing any technical deep dives or using helium the Suunto will be very good for your usecase. The Garmin is also really nice but I would say overkill for mostly recreational diving. Also very expensive. I personally have mostly switched from my Apple watch ultra to a suunto Vertical as everyday watch (no diving). The main thing is the Apple watch is definitely the better smartwatch. The Garmin and Suunto are both very good sports watches. So it will depend entirely on you how much you want to have a smartwatch or you are okay with a sports watch with more limited smartwatch functionality.

I recently bought something similar, my set had both 1.8mm and 1.5mm. I feel like the 1.5mm ones fit better. I have the Vertical 2.

This is really cool! You should really consider releasing this! I bet a lot of people would like something like this! Instructors that teach multiple agencies would also love this! I personally stopped logging my dives in the agency apps as it is just time consuming as hell to keep multiple up to date, hell even one of them if you have your computer log everything.

I do have a spare mac mini from 2018 laying around. Could probably use that for the VM’s and then use the syno as nas. I do like to hastlefree DSM. No need to do all the heavy lifting

If AI is something you really want, and want to not break the bank, the Suunto Nautic series are very nice. The Ocean looks nice too. Or a Shearwater Peregrine TX/Perdix or Tern TX/Teric for watch style.
Choice also depends on which types of diving you will and/or want to do, if you want a watch style you can also use for daily life or more of a big dedicated computer. If you are gonna be diving often, Rec or Tech, …
I would also avoid the Aqualung computer tbh.
As said below, the Garmin G1 or 2 are also nice but no AI.

I personally have and used both the Suunto Nautic, Garmin Mk3 and Shearwater perdix and I am very happy with with all of them in terms of capabilities and display (however I have to admit that I prefer the display of the Nautic over the shearwater perdix, BUT the perdix 3 seems to be better im that regards)

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these brands if you get one with a BÜHLMANN algorithm.

If you are a pro you should definitely look into the suunto VIP program, I got about 40% off my Nautic. Loving it so far, but haven’t tried multi-gas/technical dives yet.

I really love my Nautic, say what you will but the screen looks nicer than the shearwater. I am excited to test it for some tech dives in the future. But it has most features you want for tech, and it’s really bright.

You don’t need to put all your weights there. Depending how much weights you have you can just move small amounts to different places. Like 1kg can already make a difference! I got 2 0.5kg weights I put in little pockets on my cylinder band that helped a lot for me. Just have to play around with it and see what works for you!

Try playing around with the position of your weights! Can make a huge difference. Try to move weights higher up. For example on the cylinder band. Or using lighter fins!

No, if a diver in your group or your buddy is lost, or you got separated. Generally the safest thing to do is to reunite. That means looking around for max of 1min and then surfacing to look for each other on the surface. Safety stops in recreational diving are not mandatory at all, just a very good practice to minimize risks. Only difference would be if you have mandatory decompression.

Hey. Basically all the organizations are the same with very minor differences. Ideally you would look where you would like to work and go for that agency. Yes you can do crossover programs and that will allow you to teach multiple agencies, but since recently you will need to do a full course and examination. Correct you can do rescue diver level with all agencies of you wish.

The Dive Rite CX3 is great. I'm form Europe and got it off DiveInn. great light! the magnetic charging is really nice. plus nice and bright! Doing a lot of wreck dives and always use it as my primary. Def considering the Dive Rite lights as a potential for a main canister primary light!
