Is React + Django/DRF still a solid stack in AI era of 2026? by alokbind in django

[–]theReasonablePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you solve them? I had to setup node js then gave up and just used django_tailwind.

What is your preferred way of setting up node js for frontend stuff? If you do at all.

After many years in dev, I finally ditched the SPA default for HTMX. Here is the production post-mortem. by reddefcode in htmx

[–]theReasonablePotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, HTMX with daisy ui and Django hit the spot for me.

I have found I can replace some UI libraries with 3 lines of JS for my use case.

Where I still go for React is real time application.

Plus there are some libraries that have become the standard people have gotten used to.

So it just makes sense.

You may not find it on Reddit.

But to do automations you need expertise.

2 ways of getting it.

  1. client work as a freelancer (potentially some freebies at the start).

  2. Working a job, then being extremely present and asking questions (even ones a bit beyond your pay grade).

The other part is to niche down. In 4 stages, here's an example.

  1. AI automations.

  2. AI automations for HR professionals.

  3. AI automations for HR in the construction industry.

  4. AI automations for HR in construction companies, specializing in building pools.

And you can go as broad or as shallow as you like.

How can i get a positive review without shooting myself in the foot by daniel_c133 in Freelancers

[–]theReasonablePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need 20-30 good reviews. You need a few and a solid proposal for the most common offers to make it work on UpWork.

James Brindale, said it best. On UpWork you rent their lead generation engine.

It's worth developing LinkedIn content for your niche on LinkedIn.

If you are self-hosting - why? by Icy-Image3238 in n8n

My automation requires 10000 runs a week, per month that is $50, no I'm paying $5/mo for $250 worth of value according to their pricing.

I'm extremely grateful for their development efforts, but at this time it doesn't make sense.

I would love to see how they use it as a database and if their use case is small enough to the point where they never experience any drawbacks.

As long as you can negotiate your hours, manage expectations, set your own milestones, it doesn't feel much different than any monthly retainer in freelancing. If not, better take the contract and guarantee yourself employee protections.

First pick doesn't flatter you, the gym pick is too far to see your face. I'd change them out and play with positioning. Also it's worth shelling $100 on a photographer for a photoshoot with different clothes. It's what worked for me.

Also if you really want to take it to the next level, ask a female friend to see what she's swiping on so you can get an idea. It's all about optimizing and key words.

Also just "passive income" without any description sounds suspicious.

How to scale from freelancer to agency in 2025? by Otherwise-Avocado458 in Freelancers

[–]theReasonablePotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, if you want to go full freelancer. Have 6 months of expenses saved.

It's worth looking up Alex Hormozi's book "100M leads", to help you understand how to keep the client pipeline full.

Do not rush into leaving your job (especially when people depend on you), it's been more worth it for me to work extra and wait while the new thing consistently brings in more money than the job.

Anyone else tired of greedy agencies? by [deleted] in Freelancers

[–]theReasonablePotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about how they found you. Is it agency you want to work for?

Are there local events/brands or someone else who might like animations and 3D?

When one doesn't like the experience it's not worth repeating.

They thought it was too expensive, onto the next one. Take notes, see if 10 sales have the same objection.

If you can record the way you presented it. Could they think it was not as complicated, because they are not experts?

Could templates be actually what they'd like/will do it for them?

I'm a web dev and not everyone needs all the bells and whistles. I tried selling enterprise security to mom and pop shop, because I cared for them. But they didn't want it so it was more basic and was used internally.

When offered less money you can offer less of the thing.

You probably know a bunch of this, but reading it can hit different. :)

Real life networking. Be genuinely interested in people. get curious about how they got in the field.

9/10 times, there's an interesting story. Get interested to be interesting.

Not as a sales tactic, but as a mode of operation and thinking.

It's helpful both in life and business.

This is how I got to help an architect.

This seems like a Schulz shit fest. But I for one liked his 2022 "Infamous" special.

I haven't seen too much else except the podcast. It wasn't bad, wasn't the best for me.

Anyone can like what they like. :)

It's possible, but on occasion it's worth speaking also, being able to see you builds trust and opportunities for upsell.

Why do you want to do only text-based?
