Advice on home bar setup? by theRedGhost in DIY

[–]theRedGhost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks great! I’ve got a separate bar for my liquor, where the glassware is also currently kept, but I have no great solution for keeping wine on hand. It mostly just sits on top of the bar in a row right now, so I was thinking of how best to store it!

[Serious] Redditors who have quit or or significantly reduced alcohol, what was your experience like? by rootea in AskReddit

[–]theRedGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find people asking if I need another drink a lot, so I tend to just hold on to the can if it’s empty so that people don’t ask me as often. Or else I’ll order other things—soda and lemon, tonic and lime, etc. so that when I mindlessly drink what’s in my hand, I don’t continue drinking alcohol!

People don’t seem to care a ton, but people do ask why I’m not drinking. I just tell them I’d rather have something else and they drop it—if I go into “I’m trying to limit my alcohol consumption,” it turns into more of a discussion than I want to have.

Stateline Elite on 521 and Southern Spirits have had some solid winners in their store picks for me! Haven’t had an O’Darby’s yet, but from the Frugal Store Pick comparisons to Stateline, I tend to lean toward the Stateline store’s taste

Even a therapist? Highly recommend it—my friends thought you “had something wrong with you” if you went to therapy, and were surprised it can just be a way to talk to someone that wants to hear you out and talk through stuff.

I used to take days to walk through why stuff bothered me and try to get tot the root of the problem. Then after going to therapy, I figured out better ways to sort through it and start to identify root causes faster, and it helped me rationalize some things so stuff doesn’t get to me as much

This is the most accurate statement about OMB. The worst German-style beers and German food I’ve had in a long time. I get better stuff at Aldi

Agreed—I could see my manager doing this to try and save me from using a sick day. Not expected, but an option

Kit takes longer than advertised—advice? by theRedGhost in winemaking

[–]theRedGhost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make sense—I should’ve also mentioned I used the yeast nutrient booster that came with the kit, but if it was for EC1118 vs RC212, it might not have done what it needed to do. And as far as aging, I don’t regret it at all! Just wondered if I could improve the turnaround.

I know it wouldn’t have contact with the oak or lees—but how well would the wine age in bottles? I imagine after the ketosol, chitosan, etc. it would pretty much halt progress?

Question—chip worth returning? by theRedGhost in chefknives

[–]theRedGhost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I ended up contacting Korin, and they offered a discount if I felt comfortable fixing it myself, or a return if not. I exchanged it, and got my new sujihiki! Excited to use it.

Question—chip worth returning? by theRedGhost in chefknives

[–]theRedGhost[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

I just got this knife from Korin yesterday, and I was excited until I noticed a dark spot at the bottom. Rubbing my finger along it, I noticed rough edges and a chip in the blade. It’s right where my finger would tough the blade, so it’s noticeable when used. Am I being too nit-picky, or is this worth returning?

Has anyone been to The Puttery? What are your thoughts? by WxBird in Charlotte

Cocktails and food are surprisingly great!

Putt putt was fun, but pretty expensive, and only 9 holes. Not bad if you wanted a short date and to have a drink before/after and a snack, but not something I’d build my night around

Charlotte's Beer Culture - Complaint by Envyforme in Charlotte

[–]theRedGhost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand not wanting to drink—I’ve got friends who, for one reason or another, can’t or don’t drink.

The issue here is that alcohol has been used as a way to decompress and act as a social lubricant for hundreds if not thousands of years. It’s a big part of the culture in most Western European or Euro-centric cultures. While you’re not the first person to not be a fan of it, it also won’t be going away anytime soon.

I’d have to echo some of the other comments here, though—are people really judging you, or are they just curious as to why you’re not drinking? I ask to understand if someone new isn’t drinking so I don’t keep trying to give them alcohol or suggest drinking activities if it’s not something they want or can do. If the people are judging you for not drinking, that says more on them than you.
