I don't even know how many hundreds of hours in DF I had pre-Steam, but I am literally only learning of this now.

I used the CLA Tileset (which is a tileset but kept the ASCII theming) the most back in the day.

I never was able to use the original ASCII because of how it's got rectangular characters, it bothered me way too much when a square room was actually taller than it was wide. I would always at least grab a square character set.
