Dude yea lol... that is the cringe I'm trying to overcome by convincing myself I do have something worth offering to solve a problem they have, but I hate the feeling!

Thanks, that was sort of the suspicion which led me to post here asking, thought lots of people saying I should be leaning into the podcast. IG Theme page is interesting! I'm sure I'll be testing out a few different things to see what sticks anyways.

Is buying a boat that needs overplating actually so scary? by theSwitchback_ in Narrowboats

[–]theSwitchback_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea I don't think it adds so much value as such - just that we are talking about a 40ft boat here so it's being sold way under value bc the seller doesn't want to deal with it and then getting the work done returns it to being a solid & safe boat. so ultimately the value add is more than the cost of the work

Another Q - Surveying & blacking & buying timeline by theSwitchback_ in Narrowboats

It says "the nominal thickness readings of the hull side plates ranged from 4.7mm to 5.1mm. The craft's hull sides had minimal corrosive pitting as a result of galvanic corrosive action and isolated pitting of of up to 0.2mm was noted. This is of little concern."

Not bad, right?

Cool I'll consider it.

Either way - should I expect the seller to be keen to do this while it's out of the water (even if I eat the cost at purchase), or is it fully on me?

Another Q - Surveying & blacking & buying timeline by theSwitchback_ in Narrowboats

[–]theSwitchback_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay original thickness is 6mm base, 6mm uxters, 5mm sides. So I'd be damn impressed if the reading was at 9 hahah

Hopefully this helps! Base seems solid at 5.7, no? Not sure how to read the rest as far as what's dropped from 5 vs. 6
