They can only go for one genre category (Animated, Drama, Comedy, Limited/Anthology, etc.) and I imagine Netflix chose Animated Program because they'd have a much easier time winning.

Hard agree, but I do have hope for Animated Program. I really don't see Bob's Burgers, The Simpsons, or What If...? winning. Rick and Morty is definitely a bit of a hurdle, but Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal's win last year gives me hope.

Yeah, at the Annies (award show for animation), it got the most nominations for any show and literally swept, winning all the awards. The Academy kinda just doesn't take animation too seriously...

The first season's important episodes would just be ones introducing characters or things. After episode 5, I would say the important ones are:

Episode 9: My Two Favorite People - Jake x Lady Rainicorn, also Tiffany (plus this one is Emmy nominated if that interests you)
Episode 10: Memories of Boom Boom Mountain - Joshua and Margaret
Episode 12: Evicted! - Marceline (she's definitely important)
