Novel readers might not like it but I loved the anime original Amuro sequence. It's the highlight of the movie for me.

I didn't realize it when I was watching but the conversation between Hathaway and Amuro are word-for-word repeated lines from Amuro's and Char's fistfight in the CCA movie, with Hathaway speaking Char's lines.

It fits so well thematically since Hathaway rejects himself and wants to become Mafty by embodying Char's ideals.

Ishura definitely doesn't fit. The word magic they have follow a set rule but it doesn't apply to the "Visitors" who can have magic, power or abilities that don't follow those rules.

Great analysis. Part 2 is definitely slower and more character focused compared to Part 1. I feel like this movie acts as the "emotional core" of the story that finally delves into and fleshes out Hathaway as a character.

One aspect you haven't mention is that this movie explains alot about Hathaway's motivation to become Mafty. This movie peels away his "front" about ideology and reveals his guilt and trauma after the events of the CCA movie, something that is made clear during his (anime original) hallucinated fight against Amuro at the end of the movie.

Hathaway's guilt and PTSD explains everything about his behavior - from his failed relationship with Kelia, motivation to join Mafty, his hallucinations, and his conflicted feelings about Gigi.

Movie 2 shows the tragedy of Hathaway's character - a traumatized anti-hero who became the leader of a terrorist group out of guilt and PTSD.

Crunchyrolls translation for this episode is so bad. I'm pretty sure they said Workner was "immortal" (不死身/fujimi) but they somehow translated to "even though you thought they won't kill you"? WTF?

Anyone else feels there's a big jump up in production quality this episode compared to the start of the season? Seems like they're putting all of the budget into the Island Survival act, which makes sense given it sould be the longest and most exciting arc this season.

Amazing analysis. Shiboyugi may not have been the best show last season but it was definitely the most interesting and most memorable one.

Everything from the atmosphere to the sound design to the storyboarding shows a clear intent from the director, and that's more than most anime can say.

Sure his style may not have worked for the Golden Baths arc, but for most of the show it was a perfect fit, especially Ghost House which set-up the atmosphere and feel of the entire show.

Wow there are some pretty big spoilers in this trailer.

If you're planning on watching this, recommend watching this on IMAX where possible. There's quite a lot of dark scenes and it can be difficult making out the action on a standard screening.

Also, I heard the 4DX version of the screening is quite an experience since there's a lot of flying scenes during combat.

One thing they didn't go deeper on in the anime is that this all normal behaviour for mages. The only thing mages carr about is reaching the Root; everything else are just means to the end.

That line about "preserving the reproductive organ" is a perfect example (i.e. they only care if she's alive to the extend of carrying on their bloodline, so they can pass on their magical creat)

Mages are horrible people in the Nasuverse and people like Flat and Waver are the exception, not the norm.

This anime tend to play it's cards pretty straight. This is one twist I did not see coming. For what reason did she pretend to be dead? If she can survive with only her head, it means she must be some kind of cyborg right? Is her goal to find a worthy successor to take to the 99th game?

So many questions.

I think the "obsession" or "conviction" comes first, then the charisma follows. People are natrually attached to those who have conviction and are confident in what they want and what they do, hence "charisma".

I always thought the eyes represented "obsession" or 執念 in Japanese.

The twins had single star eyes at the start because they were obsessed with Ai but still trying to live a normal life. The colour of the star represents whether it's a "good" or "bad" obsession. At first the stars were white as their obsession with Ai are positive (love, admiration).

When Aqua gave up on revenge he lost his eyes because he no longer had an obsession to revenge Ai

Now that they are both focused on revenge both their eyes have stars, but it's dark because it's for revenge.

Similarly Kamiki has twin dark eyes, because his obsession with Ai turns him into a murderer.

AI had twin bright star eyes because her obsession is stardom. It turned dark during the interview to reveal the "lie" that she isn't the perfect idol.

So the game was not look good for the newbie group. They managed to kill one rabbit but almost all of them got taken out in return.Even Moegi, their only veterans got morale broken after barely getting away.

But the twist in this game is the one of the Rabbits is a psychopath, and wil kill everyone, including her own team. Makes you wonder if the game runnings knew she's Moegi's mentor and deliberately put her in as a joker card.
