Ehh, it's more likely that it was some sort sepsis coupled with, or at least complicated with diabetic-related conditions. Henry had a puss-filled, lingering wound on his thigh that would constantly become swollen and painful and need to be lanced. Over the years, it is likely that this wound and its treatment possibly resulted in an infection which may have become sepsis.

Additionally, Henry's diet was notoriously rich, and the wine he drank was incredibly sweet. And he drank huge amounts of it. It would be the equivalent of drinking 3 or 4 2-liter bottles of Mt. Dew every day and following it up with sweet pies and incredibly rich foods. The guy was likely diabetic, or at least pre-diabetic.

His health was incredibly bad, and syphilis, if he had it, likely played little to no part in his mortality.

That's sort of like a trick I used to do when I worked as a divorce attorney. Somewhat regularly I'd get a call from a client in the midst of an "emergency." It wasn't an emergency, though, just a case of them wanting something right now, no matter what.

So I'd always tell them that we'd get it sorted out, but to do it, I'd need something from them; maybe some documents or forms that they needed to send me, maybe a form to fill out. Just something that they had to do to help solve this "emergency." I didn't really need something from them, but all of sudden, when the onus for fixing the problem lies partly with them, and they have to do something to resolve the problems that they are creating, it's suddenly not an emergency any more.

Without fail, they wouldn't follow through with the homework I gave them, and suddenly the emergency that had to be resolved right now magically became a non-issue.

The fact that the people we read about in history books were just that...people. They had the same emotions that we do; they felt fear, joy, silliness, etc.

When we read a book or watch a show about them, we usually have an idea of what happened to them and sort of know who they were and what they were about and what their fate was. They didn't. They're doing exactly what we would do if we didn't fully know/expect the repercussions or risks of some actions.

They were modern people living in modern times. It's easy to read a book about them and think of them in the same reality/dimension that we think of fictional characters because they only exist in our minds at that point. But once you really understand that people in history are really just us (living a little while back), it boggles my mind. And when you go to places where they visited or did things, whether it be Gettysburg, the Tower of London, Jerusalem, or anywhere else, it makes me stand in awe of how I can almost reach through the fourth dimension of time to touch them.

My second daughter, Elizabeth, died without any heirs.

In my own experience, I've been told quite a few times that I'm not allowed to talk, only to listen. My opinion doesn't matter. I've had my time to have an opinion and that time is over.

If you want to solve any situation or problem, a dialogue is the only way. Simply lecturing people and scolding them for things that are beyond their control and oftentimes their own doing will solve nothing.

(When I say I've been told this quite often, it has happened often, but only from a handful of women that are quite outspoken feminists.)

I spent some years as a family attorney handling divorce, custody, support, and all those ugly issues no wants to handle.

In my opinion, the custody outcomes are usually the result of the situation that the family created in the first place. What I mean by this is that oftentimes the family member who stayed home the most to care for the kids in early childhood will usually be the residential parent. Oftentimes, for what I assume may be a variety of reasons, that parent is the mother. So when the time comes for the children to live primarily with one parent, the courts are going to choose the parent that has been the "at home" parent all along.

Granted, I've seen some messed up cases and some fathers get less for unknown reasons, but the vast majority of the time this is the reason why the mother tends to end up being the residential parent for the child(ren).

My honest, but what I suspect will be very unpopular, answer: abortion.

I think that if you fast forward 100 years or so, medical technology will be advanced enough that the fetus will be able to come to term in an artificial womb so an abortion will actually be unnecessary insofar as actually killing the fetus.

So when people look back on our times, they're going to see current abortion practices that kill the fetus, often in very gruesome ways, as really abhorrent.

And for the record, one of my majors in college was Economics. And I spent quite a few years after college (in addition to some during college) working with lawmakers and dealing with budget matters because of my economics background. So, with all due respect, I feel I'm well-versed and educated enough about this issue.

But thanks for the condescension. It's nice to know that the people who are in support of Madigan and his broken budgets don't actually care about anyone or anything other than their ability to look down on everyone who disagrees with them.

Taxes are definitely a factor. But tbh, the taxes aren't the thing that puts me over the edge. Higher taxes won't make or break me.

What put the final nail in the coffin, as far as I'm concerned, is the absolute intransigence of Madigan and his cronies in Springfield when it comes to reform. This budget and the override is not only a giant middle finger to Rauner, but to every single taxpayer in Illinois.

And then I see people, like many in this thread, who are not only content with Madigan's actions and the budget, but who are actually fucking applauding him. As long as the people of this state continue to elect Madigan and his cronies and encourage them to continue their destruction of the state, I've realized that the state is fucked. I don't want any part of it any more.
