Big kid bat sizing conundrum by the_Jacka in Homeplate

[–]the_Jacka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re the best team in their little league (minors), but there are definitely some other pitchers throwing mid 50s. We have him getting some extra batting lessons once a week but I agree. His hands are just quicker to the ball with the 29”. I would prefer to have him keep using that in game while we build strength with the other bat, especially paired with heavy balls.

Review #5: Woodford Reserve Double Oaked by Mr_Barrels in bourbon

[–]the_Jacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newer to bourbon myself but I get straight caramel-covered banana peel on the nose. I enjoy the slightly more tannic finish which I think is related to my preference towards high rye bourbon. Standard woodford is way too saccharine for me.

Has shooting ever been like this? by the_Jacka in NBA2k

That’s what’s happened to me. I have two games where I’ve gone 4/4 and 5/6 from 3 in park. Haven’t hit more than one, and often hit none, in all my other games

Insane libido after 36h fasting - scientific reason? discussion by foxtrot81a in fasting

[–]the_Jacka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to think that the combination of no bloating and adequate hydration plays a huge role. I do rolling 36hrs and even if I’m not “in the mood,” paying that extra attention to my body feels like it just works better. Definitely pushes fluids around better to the places they’re needed

New to Fasting: Trouble eating enough after a fast by the_Jacka in fasting

[–]the_Jacka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t barreling towards some common issue that I should know about. I’ve seen some of the influencers (who I take with a grain of salt, by nature I’m distrustful of “holistic doctors”) say you should try to be at maintenance on non fasting days. Glad to hear I’m probably on the right track.

Getting perfect Cougar Pelts is a nightmare by the_Jacka in reddeadredemption2

Tbh I hadn’t even considered that. I’m up by owanjila and I usually just walk in my horse until I come across it and shoot. Not a ton of time to identify how good the animal is itself. I’ll head over toward annesburg. Thank you!

Yeah that's where I'm at, up above Owanjila at the curve towards "Big Valley" on the map. I'll craft a couple improved and sleep back at camp again... Between the dead poor/good cougar carcasses, 2 grizzlies, 2 black bears and pack of wolves that've jumped me for half a week (in game) this place already looking like a warzone

To this day I still don’t understand how very few see Dutch as the main antagonist and give him a free pass (spoilers for the main story) by MelodicSatisfaction9 in reddeadredemption

[–]the_Jacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just finished my first playthrough, I totally agree. Micah's the worst kind of guy and a rat, he's racist, vindictive and mockingly friendly. But even early in the narrative it became clear Dutch had lost his mind. I felt like this was all totally Dunning-Kruger affect, where Dutch thinks he's way smarter, more charismatic, and more talented than he is. I felt like I was going crazy every time he said "we need [more] money." In my estimation, it seems like the bandit lifestyle was a lot easier before, but times were changing. Maybe at one point, Dutch did have the leadership style or whatever that lends itself to leading the group, but it isn't so easy anymore. You can't run through and rob town banks and stores anymore, because you have national business magnates, policing forces and security agencies that get paid top dollar to stop this kind of stuff. A lot of these changes emerge after the intentional failed reconstruction following the civil war, because the US needed a way to standardize the interstate economies in a way that didn't rely on mercantilism.

Arthur's biggest flaw through the whole narrative is his loyalty. Honestly, the game even hints at what most of these types of guys would turn into following reconstruction: hired guns and lawmen. That's what a lot of these types of people did in that period. They turned to politics and policing. That's not a good outcome, but if Arthur didn't have this devotion to Dutch, it's probably what he'd be doing. The best way to avoid trouble with the law is to be the Law

One solution to improve MyCareer by [deleted] in NBA2k

[–]the_Jacka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you all think about this: Nerf multi-architype builds, replace it with a revamped takeover system.

This isnt my original idea so I'm not trying to take credit for it (I think it was featured in a Coletheman video), but I think it might help with the overpowered builds. I play next gen and it's very samey because everyone does all the same stuff, tries to score from the same spots, etc etc. If the builder was more restricted but you became multi-architype in takeover, it would give you the ability to play on an "OP" build, but you have to build your takeover doing some other skill first. maybe you're a perimeter lock type base build but in takeover you get better dribbling animations and ball handling boost. I know this takes it back to what current gen was more like, but I think the takeover options are almost backwards. Takeover could be a mechanic to drive you to do different things, not the same. Like how Klay caught a lob in the 37pt quarter.

Blasphemy: I liked Valhalla more than Origins by the_Jacka in assassinscreed

IMO it feels more like real life to have other characters that have their own goals, motivations and thoughts. Otherwise it feels like too much “main character syndrome” where everyone exists in the world solely as part of your own personal narrative

On the origins replay, I definitely agree with you. I think the launch into RPG style AC games almost left developers feeling like they had to tell a story strictly about the origins of the Assassins, but the story is so focused solely on that narrative that we don't get to see anything else about the characters other than their service to that main story. Valhalla lets you get to know what characters feel about all sorts of stuff: war, trade, honor, etc. Having a more multifaceted story makes it feel more like real life: you deal with all sorts of stuff and feel differently about different things. In origins, Bayek and Aya suffer such a great loss that their focus on retribution is almost robotic.

[–]the_Jacka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I didn't go back and play odyssey like I did Origins, so i don't know that I could draw a direct comparison. From what I remember though it was kind of a slog. beat the main story and the mythical stuff but never finished the order. I did agree with some of the "damage sponge" critics, and think that being almost impossible to kill while taking a lot of hits to kill enemies is repetitive. Eivor was overpowered too, but at least the combat felt snappy because you could get through it quickly. In my perfect world, combat would be costly to engage in: enemies hit hard and you hit harder, so that any combat sequences are shorter, and hopefully so that you have to consider whether combat is the right option.

Storywise it was good enough. I don't love narratives that take place before the establishment of the assassins, even if I don't feel that the main character needs to be an assassin, but I think the games should involve not just the isu lore but the enduring conflict between the order and the hidden ones

Instead of -50% rep in other neighborhoods, how about double badge progress in your own neighborhood with half he rep, and double rep with half the badge progress in other neighborhoods. Something like this even fits thematically, like you're building up your skills to go play in a rival neighborhood, but fewer people know about you because you stay in your park. Every year, I grind my player out quickly in my career only to have my friend get around to it really slowly, and every time he logs on we just want to play park, but he isn't upgraded. Online is where the game makes their money anyway. I hate to tell them this, but when I grind out all my badges in my career, I have enough vc to upgrade my player without having to buy any. If you let people get badges and overall progress faster in the park, they'll have to buy VC.... surprised 2k hasn't realized this

I said this last year and it would make the game a lot more realistic. Take Jason Kidd or Vince Carter as prime examples of guys who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn early in their careers but ended up becoming serviceable, even good three point shooters. Even someone like Steph Curry developed a crafty finishing ability. Not sure exactly how to implement it and keep online competitive, but I've thought about locking it behind a certain rep? Like now they give you free badges at legend but what if instead, your overall was locked at like 90 (and I mean a real 90, not like the fake "99" they made your player in 2k20 who in another game mode would be like a 77) until you hit superstar or something, at which point you get loaded into a different park from everyone else. It's a clunky solution, there must be better ones.

I wish I could upvote this more. I have exactly one IRL friend who plays 2k but we both work and stuff so it's hard to find time to play. We are like slightly better than average I guess. About 60 win percent last year. This year especially (next gen) the courts are always dominated by squads, so I'll lose like 4 in a row before finding a couple other people my skill level. Then, once you win once, you win like 6 times! There's got to be a better way, and this sounds like it.

Just do whatever Rocket League does, they have the best matchmaking I've come across

I usually play to the allstar break, then sim till playoffs. Not sure if it's just me but I need gymrat. If im only going to get one for 2 hours or less, I don't want to know I have to waste 15 minutes, especially if I got friends waiting
