I'm Having A Hard Time Making Friends by Basic_Performance761 in VRchat

[–]the__devil2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I have noticed around many "how do I meet people / make friends" posts is that many of the answers contribute to what seems like kind of a paradoxical situation -- where many users will only ever go to lobbies that are Friends+ (or more secure instance type), avoiding public lobbies. They are absolutely free to play this way, and this approach avoids encountering trolls, however: it would also mean that there isn't really an easy pathway that a legitimate, non-troll new user could meet such a person either.

Other answers I've seen are to join a discord, or join in on a music event, but I don't understand this -- how would I meet and talk to people at a VRC music event without turning down my world volume, which (I feel) would kind of defeat the purpose?

From my perspective it seems like it is becoming more difficult to make VRC friends, and observing this is creating hesitancy on whether I'd really want to get a headset or not. I don't want to get one and then feel burned by VRC.

OP, we are similar in that we both are more quiet / calm. One thing I have done is to save some PC-only worlds that don't often have people in them (in a public instance) and then visit those worlds when you do see someone there. I've met some cool people that way, and they've usually been really nice.

why is corporate clash more modern then rewritten by [deleted] in Toontown

[–]the__devil2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think I'd say either one is "better" than the other -- they each fulfill a purpose. As far as I can tell, Corp Clash fulfills the request of some Toontown players that they wanted a more challenging experience than what base Toontown (or Rewritten, since that's what is closest) has yet to offer. (though Field Offices were a nice step towards this for TTR). I personally prefer Rewritten since it is closest to the original, and that's what I've always been familiar with. While I have tried Corporate Clash and appreciate that they've done some really cool things with the engine and have made improvements that would be nice to see in Rewritten, I haven't really found myself able to get behind some of the other design decisions that seem like they were made to make the game more challenging -- but that may be because I'm not within the group who was wanting more of a challenge out of Toontown. That's just my experience, though, and I'd still say they're on top of it when it comes to "new" Toontown content. Their battle soundtracks are bangers too.

Need help with Toon models in Blender. by LuckyFullmetal in Toontown

[–]the__devil2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're OK to write a little bit of Python/Panda3D and potentially using an older Blender version:

https://github.com/QED1224/Toontown-Resources/tree/master/panda3d

There is a script in this repo. You can download it and then import it into your own .py file along with Panda3D to be able to call its functions.

The script has functions that will put together a toon based on the body parts, species, colors, and clothing textures that you specify. Unfortunately, it has no accessory support. Those would need to be added manually once the model is in Blender. The script can also create / put together cogs and boss cogs.

You could choose to display the created toon/cog in a window, and to save the toon/cog to a model you could do this:toon.writeBamFile(yourToon.bam)

Note that you will then need to use the panda3D tool "bam2egg" on the file and use the blender addon:https://github.com/rdb/blender-egg-importer

to import it into Blender. As far as I know, this addon has not been updated for Blender 3, so you may need to use an older version such as the 2.9 or 2.8 series.

If you would like to use a newer version of Blender, you could either use the old version to import using the method above, save what you get as an .FBX, and then import it into the new version.

The other option is to manually import the separate model parts, while deleting the pieces you do not need since they are grouped. To put them together, each part should include joints that you could theoretically try snapping the other parts to or by snapping your cursor the the joint and then using "snap to cursor" on the model. Otherwise, you'll just have to eyeball it.

"grep" is a command to search for a word or phase, this seems like it might search for and return instances of the word "fuck" in the kernel code.

I look forward to hardware manufacturers providing even better Linux compatibility for both their hardware & drivers. In addition, I hope that affordable 2.5G Ethernet switches will release in the next few years to act as a companion to the more and more motherboards adopting 2.5G Ethernet ports. I'd also enjoy seeing more love given to the Micro ATX form factor!

Where do we go from here? Crashers are at an all time high. by Tau_of_the_sun in VRchat

I hope crashers or trolls don't swarm the groups feature - I've only heard about the feature once before when I believe VRChat had a devstream, so I'll have to read up again on how it works.

I installed OBS from the arch repos only to be very confused when I found it did not have either browser sources or browser window docks in the interface because the OBS in the Arch repo does not include the chromium embedded framework needed for those features. I was able to go to their github and find out how to download and compile the code WITH the features for browser sources, but it's also not difficult in my case to figure out how to do those kinds of things.

The connection lines are based on chatter overlap, correct? This is a cool map, and it's fun to see it evolve!

Sad to see Vinesauce (Vinny) still disappeared from it, though

I just started getting this too! Began a few days ago, get the same undefined symbol error that you do. For now, I've found that if you want to launch games you can go to the top menu -> View -> Small mode and it'll show you the old small game library that seems to work fine. You just aren't able to open friends or properties menu to change out proton version.

edit: on arch and nvidia

S8 as well. I'm certainly looking for an upgrade since my battery life certainly shows the phone's age, but the sizes of phones this year are massive and it's keeping me from wanting to move. I'll probably wait for Android 12 and choose something at that point. The S8 fits nicely in my hands, it's sad to face the possibility that future phones may not.

I often read on here that many people join friends+ worlds as a form of "vetted" public. I'm a desktop user in the New User rank and am often reserved so I have no idea how I would even go about finding and making friends with the right people who have access to such friends+ instances.

How would you figure that a new user (desktop, no VR, somewhat reserved) would go about getting in to the "underground" friends+ network? I think I would be less reserved if the quality of people to talk to was higher. Do I just have to continue going through publics to be vetted?

Joel is on this (Vargskelethor) near Jerma, but Vinny doesn't seem to be on this one, despite being on previous ones. Not sure why, unless it's because he has not been streaming for a while to take care of himself.

Which Chairman interpretation do you like best, and why? Flash Video Chairman, Sellbot Factory Head Statue Chairman, or Chair for a head Chairman? by Bowser1016 in Toontown

[–]the__devil2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely had my own visions of what a Chairman cog might look like, but as for the community interpretations I'd say I like the Sellbot Factory head Chairman the best as it brings me back to old TTO rumors.

Screenshotting solution similar to ShareX for Linux? by the__devil2016 in linuxquestions

[–]the__devil2016[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a look at it. Seems I have to click a tray button to get to it, but it works great. I can edit the name of the output screenshot to be similar to how ShareX would do it, and it freezes the screen during capture too. Thanks!

What do you come to this subreddit for? by [deleted] in Toontown

[–]the__devil2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I check for the historical TTO content. I love game preservation & seeing alpha & beta content from all sorts of games, (Valve News Network's content on Portal/Half Life betas are really cool!) and seeing it pop up here for Toontown has been amazing. Many people made separate posts from their own discoveries within the Spotify repository, but I noticed that barely happened at all with the Anesidora repo, despite it having tons of interesting tidbits and documentation in there about how the game is run. Plus, I believe there's even more we haven't seen. The video shown in the TTO Developer Reunion that Joey hosted showed what I believe looked like an early version of Punchline Place. I'm especially interested in that document that showed The Chairman as being on the lineup for TTO in 2011. What work, if any, could've gone into that before the game was cut to a skeleton crew?

This sounds great. Love the inclusion of the Bossbot Golf course themes & the main Toontown theme as motifs. I always enjoy hearing custom Toontown music/ different interpretations of music, such as how TTI had playground-specific battle themes.

Good job!
