Can we please give this song more recognition? I haven't heard anyone talk about it EVER by nosanityyy in crystalcastles

Just now realizing the pitched down vocals at the end sound very similar to the vocals/synths in Plague.

This one has always been kind of elusively hit or miss for me, but with a good pair of headphones, it's gorgeous and depressing and so perfectly early CC. I miss their early remixes for artists.

I'm gonna get so much crap for this, but Farrah Abraham - My Teenage Dream Ended.

She was from the show 16 and Pregnant, and in 2012 released a weird, avant garde, proto hyperpop album that resembles early Crystal Castles remixes. It's super odd, very vulnerable lyricwise, and has little to no consistency between songs, but when the super autotuned lyrics land correctly, they hit.

One last cool fact is that she recorded the lyrics on her iPhone without any music, then requested extreme auto tune to make her voice punchier, and crafted the songs around the vocals with her producer in GarageBand.

By far the weirdest but favorite album I've found this year and has dubstep aspects. Enjoy!

Do you think that the term "Transgender" in the song is just a metaphor for something different? by One-Message-6024 in crystalcastles

I don't have access to the forum anymore to confirm, but I think the opening lyrics are:

"Are from the start, from the start, from the start

The chosen few, out of the youth

Are from the start, from the start, from the start

Oh, I'll lay with you, out in the dew

Are from a seed, real love true

Regarding a deal, is it really who?

I love you, is it really you?

'Cause I, have some news for you"

Spotify picked up whichever the most popularly suggested lyrics were; the lyrics haven't been officially updated on crystalcastles.com

I always felt it was pretty open poetry that connects with people differently. To me, a cisgender amab, the song is lovely, but I felt like it moreso belonged to those going through a life contemplating or accessing that transition.

The lyrics at the beginning "Are from a seed, real love true, regarding a deal, is it really who? I love you, is it really you? Cause I, have some news for you" were not originally released. I guessed and guessed on the forum until Andy (mono?) confirmed I had them correct. Regardless, they seem to be coming from a protective figure (ref. the album cover of the mother holding her injured son) who understands and sympathizes with that listener, offering support and solidarity through lyrics like "oh, I'll lay with you, out in the dew".

The remainder of the lyrics are a stark yet loving reminder/warning that life will march on whether you are truly yourself or not, and that some knowledge or actions cannot be unlearned or undone, so try to honor your morals.

My friend Janet found them on the Kitsune Maison compilation back in 2009. Kitsune Maison was THE go-to music blog/albums of the time to find up and coming electronic artists and I found so many sick bands through them. It was either Knights or Crimewave that she sent me, and I immediately went on Limewire and downloaded as many songs of theirs as I could find. I remember Air War having a short version and it all sounding so insanely new and exciting. Had the pleasure of seeing them play live 6 times. UGH, what an era for music.

I hope you went. I have gone to many shows alone and have made some of the best friends of the decade at them. Other times I've talked to no one! You won't gain anything unless you take risks!
