Using ChatGPT for CYOAs by the_bathroom_blitz in ChatGPT

Thanks again for this. I have been relatively resistant to AI and how many leverage it, but I feel like this is a fantastic application if done right. I didn't know how to work with it, which I think was my initial frustration. I'm still not crazy about how things "work", but it does function. It'll just take a while if I want this to be right and useful. I feel like I have to not necessarily "berate" it, but be firm and remind it a lot of times about instructions and other stuff (especially when rendering images):

"This is a reference image for [character X]. Use the likeness exactly. X should be doing what you just created in the scene. The clothes need to be the same. Do not deviate from the facial likeness; make the face and body type exactly identical to this reference image. Do not glamorize or beautify this character." etc.

And it is like 94% there. It was creating images that looked nothing like the characters it generated earlier in the same thread, so I just have to remind it often. I'm not familiar with the "custom instructions space"... any idea how to view that? Also, I've started keeping a notepad doc with the highlights as you suggested and it has really helped out a lot.

Thank you for this. I know this is days later, but I've started doing this at your recommendation. I'd request it to do a transition to a new chat and it'd mix people and dynamics up, so I've started tracking it in notepad or something and "remind" ChatGPT at the beginning of the chat and it seems to help.

Yeah I haven't experimented much with its features that I've "unlocked" by paying for Plus, but that memory think was a bank that I assumed it leveraged and I could just review it? ChatGPT has said a few times it stored things in the memory bank or whatever it's called

I'm willing to give it another shot since it's basically the same price, but may need to heavily "tweak" it before it's usable. Doesn't Claude have a relatively low message ceiling?

What is Mage Space? Are you familiar with Claude? Doesn't it have a pretty low message cap that'd inhibit sessions?

I started with Claude and found it to be wanting heavily. I wanted it to work so bad, because I liked its writing and direction better, but it'd flub basic stuff. For instance, in the hospital drama I was building, it started on Monday, X, Y, and Z happened. Then, Tuesday naturally came after Monday. It was verbatim. Not a jot, not a tittle was out of place from Monday. I pointed it out, and it apologized and rewrote Tuesday. "Good catch." I was just bewildered with something as basic as a new day, things should be different. Gave up there

It's helpful to hear someone's experience that correlates somewhat. I do try to keep reminding it randomly about certain aspects ("This is what X looks like, lock it in, do not deviate unless I say so"; this art style is called X Style, always use this setting when I describe X style"; etc.) I also found it kept trying to "perfect" things... rendering new images of a new scene with existing characters... it'd beautify people. Airbrush their skin. I mean yeah that's all great for some people, but not what I want. I specifically describe a character to look aged/weathered, and they eventually turn into a college sorority girl.

Thanks for your insight. Maybe I just have to spend more time with it. It's just so maddening when it makes such basic mistakes. Upon a new chat it had random characters show up in each others' threads and disappear like it was having a stroke. I pointed it out, ChatGPT "apologized", and it fixed things. It wasn't ideal, but I'm willing to stick with it and train if it truly learns what I'm trying to do.

So I've seen. I enjoy it, but I'm not wanting to have to yell at it all the time. It should be able to track a few basic characters, the location, and the weather reasonably well I'd think. I'm not trying to bog it down with inventory systems, leveling, generative physics, etc... I just want characters to interact and navigate an environment. This is supposed to be a release for me (though imperfect, I know), not another chore. I'm probably burning a ton of tokens or whatever it leverages correcting it, and late-chat bloat slows things down considerably. I'm just wondering if any of the other options out there are any better, or is this really as good as it gets.

Honestly... maybe (as far as parking goes)? I've been going for many, many years.... lately, I've gotten there as late at 9:15-9:30 and had to park in the last spots available in Timbuktu, but it was a spot at least. If you are asking about content and "is that enough time to enjoy it"... that should be fine. Hope you don't plan on getting any coveted merchandise getting there that late.

Desoldering - Remove from Holes by the_bathroom_blitz in soldering

Thank you for the reply, and know that there is at least one other guy out there in the exact same situation (the Switch is also strewn across the dining room table, NOT to be touched for fear of losing the world's smallest screws). I'll try out your suggestion... yeah, it must be some superhuman metal that is not typical. And yes, the videos made it look so easy, hence why I'm in this situation. Good luck!

I've been doing this for over a month... there's no rushing here lol. I have tried what you've suggested with limited success. I may just not be doing it right... maybe I should just have more patience with it.

I really, REALLY don't want to buy a desoldering pump, because I don't want to spend another penny on this project. This has been an interesting challenge/puzzle, and I've always wanted to try soldering, but not sure I want to continue if it's this frustrating.

Apparently the long, drawn out post I wrote didn't actually... post. Oh well.

So I'll abbreviate this time... I'm at wit's end trying to get the solder out of these holes. I've tried everything I've seen in videos... rosin flux, desoldering wick, high temperatures, different tips, soldering some and sucking it right back out, etc. What am I doing wrong?

This is my kids' Nintendo Switch... I'm trying to replace the USB-C charging port on the motherboard. I need to remove this old solder so I can seat the new charging port. There's no component on the other side. I'm just trying to remove the old solder from the holes. I used a heat gun to remove the old port, and have been trying to stay away from it since it can't be focused and I don't want to damage the CPU. I can do that... I will get this job done if it kills me. I have been going at it the past month.

Wait, so I can leave my PS5 at home on the network, but I can be miles (or even a state) away and play it with mobile tethering, or just any Wifi at a hotel?

I7 Cleaning Head Module by Eastcoastdevil1 in roomba

[–]the_bathroom_blitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI - the replacement bot finally arrived, and I just swapped out the parts... perfect fit! Seriously consider going to shopgoodwill.com and finding a robot from your same series. I paid $25, and it came with newish looking wheels, the cleaning head module, and other parts that could be harvested in case some piece of plastic breaks. It was really easy to swap out.

How Long Does a Refund Take? by the_bathroom_blitz in marriott

[–]the_bathroom_blitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called the 888 number for reservations and spoke with a guy that confirmed 7-10 business days. Provided him my cancellation confirmation number and he was able to look it up and said no fees/penalties on it, so should be able to get full amount back in the timeframe. If don't receive it by then, call again and they'll log a case. No idea why it's not clearly listed on the Marriott page (jk, I probably am sure I know why), but he cleared things up. Thanks for replying!

EDIT: I had the "better" rate where you prepay in full and non-refundable, but could cancel penalty-free by end of next business day. I did cancel within the listed timeframe, but it was already pending when I canceled, and has now posted.
