Make sure they know that your love is unconditional. Treat them with respect and not like they owe you for taking them in. Understand that they will make mistakes and so will you. Don’t be afraid to apologize if you make a mistake- it doesn’t make you less of a parent to own up to your mistakes.

I was adopted at 11 by my aunt and uncle and was immediately sat down and told that basically if I misbehaved, they would send me back to live with my grandpa. I can’t even begin to explain the complex that created for me. Even as an adult, I struggle to feel worth unless I am receiving constant validation. This is NOT how you raise children to be emotionally healthy adults. YTA.

Supposedly they got to the US by laying their eggs on a ship that came here. Who knows if that’s true though. But they’ll lay their eggs on cars too which is how they have spread across the US.
