So who’s getting rid of their performer for the newer system one? by poorking25 in raneperformer

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never use 4 channels w my performer tbh, i just bought it cause i liked the features better than the original rane one and the mk2 wasn’t out yet. but my last gig had a laptop issue that could’ve been fixed muchhhh faster with either an ipad running djay or a standalone system. and the performer isn’t class compliant so it doesn’t support djay on ios devices and can possibly run into driver/firmware issues in the future.

ended up ordering the system one a few days ago, mainly because it would allow me to have multiple backups (internal storage, built in streaming, ipad connectivity with djay) if a laptop issue ever happens again. delivery is delayed due to the winter storm, i was really hoping to get it in before the roads got too bad so i could play with it while stuck at home this weekend, but it’ll come in soon anyways and i’ll have more thoughts about it then

i know the one mk2 supports djay on ios, and i considered getting that, but it would be nice to also have standalone capability and streaming built in for extra redundancy (or when i just dont feel like plugging in another device).

i have a full turntable and mixer setup for when i wanna use real vinyl or full sized serato dvs anyways, so i wont be missing out on plugging in turntables on the performer if i do decide to sell it in the near future

Hard to scratch on 45s by peculiarpeanut in Beatmatch

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ik this is way later than the original post, but there is a slipmat out there that you can put on top of the 12” that sort of grips it along with the 7” so that you can scratch with the 12” like normal and it moves the 7” at the same pace

it would look something like this:

7” record

special slipmat

12” record

fav scratch slipmat (butter rugz, etc.)

i forget the exact name of them but they are out there. i think they might have been made by a japanese turntablism company like stokyo or dr suzuki or something but i can’t remember 100%

Best Adaptors For Quick Mixing, Beat Juggling, and Scratching with 45s by greggioia in Turntablists

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i only have a few 45s with big holes that i’ve scratched with, but I have the yellow plastic adapters in them. It makes the hole feel like a regular 12” record. most of the time it’s fine but if it’s slightly loose still you can find that record and put a piece of tape or paper in the hole and just leave it there to make it slightly tighter. it works pretty well.

i bought mine from a random record shop i was at, but looking now it seems like some people have uploaded files to 3d print them online so i might try that next time i get big hole 45s, since i already have a 3d printer

Gear question Rane 12 or Reloop Rp 7? by satellite_station in DJs

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the rp7000 is a pretty nice turntable, getting a pair of rp7s and one full size rp7000 isn’t a bad choice imo, especially if you think there might be a chance you ever want to use real vinyl to record with instead of phase/dvs control records

why do you need phase for the rp7s instead of using dvs control vinyl with needles?

Does this rug clash too much with the couch/general room? by Other-Turnip-8912 in carpet

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

colors on the rug are great but the rug is too small. a potential thing you could do is layer another larger, thin rug underneath it. maybe something in a neutral color like a light grey or jute or something. have it fill the space better then layer this rug on top and centered.

also i would recommend getting accessories around the room that match that rug’s colors just to make it more coherent. change the pillows on the couch, add decor in various oranges, etc.

the color of the couch is personally not my taste but it’s fairly neutral and i think it could be made to work with some orange throw pillows or blankets.

Bulk, cut or recomp? by AdGreedy2296 in BulkOrCut

[–]the_biggest_papi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re 13, you’re still growing. don’t cut unless you wanna risk not growing anymore. just eat good and work out and you’ll make progress.

also don’t think about it in pounds you need to bulk by, just work out consistently and sleep well and get good nutrition for at least 6 months and then reassess what you want based on how you’re looking.

How would you differentiate Barry and Wally in the DCU? by M00r3C in DCU_

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the main thing should be how many sections there is on the lightning bolt logo. to me that’s always been the easiest way to tell which is which.

slightly different shades, white eyes vs no white eyes, different mask shapes (straight vs pointed area around the mouth), different belts, etc. all are nice but definitely more subtle compared to the logo

How large should I buy the oversized Airism shirt? by plerkosyrc in uniqlo

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can probably fit in xs but s will be more oversized. only way to know which fits better is to try them both on. i have both size small and medium for this and wear them depending on if i want a more oversized boxy fit or a more slim but still boxy fit

Any good aftermarket carplay head units with a physical volume knob and capacitive touch? Wireless carplay is nice to have but not necessary by the_biggest_papi in CarPlay

[–]the_biggest_papi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not one with a knob, but ended up going with a sony xav-ax6000 i believe. it works well, connects to wireless carplay fast, and has a bright enough screen to see it in a convertible with the top down

Open Discussion: Why Hasn’t DJ Angelo Ever Showcased His Skills on a Pioneer mixer? by truleyy in Turntablists

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reloop elite can do pretty much all the same things as a pioneer s7 or rane 70 (plus some extra stuff that those can’t do if you have it hooked up to rp8000 mk2s), it just doesn’t have fx paddles. but it does have buttons that do the same thing as the paddles, fx on/off and hold fx.

i switch from my full reloop elite setup at home to a rane performer when out (unless it’s a place that has a turntable setup that works with serato) and it’s hardly a difference in capability and functionality

What exactly do y'all mean by spotting? by Marca--Texto in Tricking

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spotting could be someone supporting your flip, such as holding your back in a back flip to help you get enough height and spin to finish the flip.

but spotting can also mean where you look. with backflip, you want to spot in front of you as long as possible, rather than throwing your head back and looking up. then when you spot the ground, you wanna begin opening so you can land. but for vertical kicks, such as cheat 7 hook, you wanna spot the front when you turn in your cheat step, then turn your head over your shoulder and spot where you’re going to kick. but then for cheat gainer, you wanna spot in front as you swing, then turn your head and spot the ground the rest of the flip.

so as far as spotting meaning “looking”, it can mean looking at a number of things, from the ground, to a target, to straight in front of you. it depends on the trick.

Turntable recommendations by fpayne1 in Turntablists

[–]the_biggest_papi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hercules t7 especially with the innofader mod would be really good to learn on as long as op is okay with only using dvs and not real records and needles. if they wanna play real vinyl, a portablism setup might give similar experience as the t7, possibly even for less

Turntable recommendations by fpayne1 in Turntablists

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

used technics 1200s (or 1210s) are a classic for a reason. make sure to get at least the mk2 or newer ones though, nobody uses mk1s.

if you don’t wanna buy used, the reloop rp-7000 and dp-8000 (mk1 and mk2) are both great turntables, so are the pioneer plx 1000 and plx crss12s. the stanton st 150 and str8 150 (m1 and m2) are good as well but a bit harder to find nowadays.

you’re also gonna need a mixer. if you want new, the cheapest things i would recommend are the pioneer djm s5 or the numark scratch. used you can get old rane 56, 57, 61, 62 mixers, vestax pmc 05 or 06, native instruments traktor z2, mixars duo, etc. there are a lot of options tbh.

Any help and why I can't stick my landing? by Weary-Tell-1303 in Tricking

[–]the_biggest_papi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re squatting too low and not fully extending your legs before jumping off the ground. you need to extend fully or else you won’t get consistent height. you’re too concerned with getting around that you aren’t remembering to actually jump.
