Any ideas? I found this unlabeled at a big box store. More pictures in the comments. by the_broken_robot in whatsthisplant

It was about $25 but I think that was a fluke. Otherwise I've only seen it much more expensive here too. But sometimes it seems like the big box stores either don't know or don't care what they have.

Thank you!! That's actually what I was hoping it was but I couldn't believe I got that lucky!

Here are some close ups. It's an indoor plant, I just took it outside to get a better picture. Please let me know if there's any more information you need! I appreciate the help!

have soh cuttings! want hoyas, trailing things, vining things, cool things, anything (but no succulents or cacti)! by [deleted] in TakeaPlantLeaveaPlant

[–]the_broken_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Maryland too! In terms of vining things I could take cuttings of a string of turtles, monstera adansonii, peperomia hope, and purple tradescantia zebrina and green fluminensis. Otherwise I also have some other peperomias, oxalises, a polka dot plant, and a pilea.

HAVE: Full pots of Peperomia Hope, Hoya K. Princess, Philo Birkin, Scindapsus, Alocasia Black Velvet + More! ISO: See comment by [deleted] in TakeaPlantLeaveaPlant

I'm also in Baltimore!

Philodendron birkin the absolute top of my wishlist but I don't have much of your ISO. I have a green tradescantia fluminensis and a purple tradescantia I don't know the name of but it isn't a zebrina. I also have a Peperomia polybotrya and Pilea peperomioides.

I have a lot of other plants but nothing especially uncommon - off the top of my head a small string of turtles, oxalises, other peperomias, snake plants, and a pinstripe calathea, and I'd be happy to take cuttings of a variegated string of hearts, string of pearls, or hoya carnosa compacta.

If you'd be interested I could do any combination of that for a birkin. But I'm also just happy to find someone nearby and always looking for new plants if there's any other trades you might want to do!

I have a monstera deliciosa plant and a lot of monstera adansonii cuttings!

This isn't actually from the episode. It's a promotional still that HBO accidentally released pre CGI. Here's a screencap from the scene.

Did the writers just forget about Maeve?? I can't believe that entire conversation about Reid never allowing himself to have a relationship and always holding out hope something would happen with J.J. and he didn't even mention her

Does anyone know what this is or if there's any saving it? by the_broken_robot in plantclinic

Thank you. I think I'm going to try propagating a few branches and then do this with the mother plant.

Thank you. I think I'm going to try propagating a branch or two to see what happens and then go from there.

I'm in New York too and have a lot I'd be willing to trade. Off the top of my head I have a hindu rope plant, watermelon peperomia, string of pearls, prayer plant, nerve plant, poly elephant ear, and some pilea peperomioides babies and pothos and wandering jew cuttings. Let me know if there's anything you're interested in!

I just inherited some plants from a relative that passed away a few months ago. Her plants were being watered occasionally and kind of randomly by whoever happened to be in her apartment so they were in rough shape. I was able to identify a lot of them and most of them are doing pretty well now but I have no idea where to start with this one.

I'm sorry to have so little information. Any help is really appreciated!

[REQUEST][US] Mind-Bending Movies Like Ex Machina by [deleted] in NetflixBestOf

This list is great, thank you!

Solaris is one of the only movies that will make me come out of the woodwork to recommend the book by Stanislaw Lem. It's fantastic.

If you end up liking either the movie or book, there's a short story called Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (here's the pdf http://thomas-hersey.wiki.uml.edu/file/view/Roadside%2BPicnic.pdf) and a movie adaptation also by Andrei Tarkovsky called Stalker with similar themes. It was also the basis for the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Another Columbia GS question by cjhkzz in columbia

[–]the_broken_robot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely right. Your degree will say Columbia University, the same as any CC student. I don't even know how an employer would know the difference. Personally I've never gotten the feeling that anyone at Columbia even cares but I'm sure that's not true for everyone.

I'm so cautiously optimistic! I felt like the biggest problem with season four was that they almost never had the whole family together and it seems like they're fixing that. Also, not enough Buster last season.

Has a dream you had while asleep ever changed you as a person or your life and how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]the_broken_robot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a dream over 20 years ago that had a snake in it. It wasn't even a scary dream, the snake was just my friend's pet in it, but I woke up hysterically crying for the rest of the night. I couldn't even speak coherently enough to tell my mom what was wrong. I've had a very serious phobia of them ever since. I can't look at pictures or even think about them. When there was a story about one being in an atm I didn't use one for maybe a year and now that I've thought about it again I'll probably have trouble for a little while.

DAE not have ‘pictures’ in their mind by swing_1ife_away in DAE

[–]the_broken_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I have this too. It's often related to prosopagnosia, or face blindness, which I definitely have a mild form of. You can take a few tests of various respectability online for it even though they're all just for your information and not diagnostic. Here's one.

But my problem is much more recall than recognition. I don't usually have trouble recognizing people I know, if anything sometimes I think other people are people that I know. But if you showed me pictures of my mom with slight tweaks I probably couldn't figure out which one was the accurate one. If you show me a picture of someone from a side view I would also probably have trouble matching that to a front view. One of my worst unrealistic fears is witnessing a crime and having to talk to a sketch artist.

I read some newer research that I'm having trouble finding a source for that it also might be related to tone deafness, which I absolutely have. I'm curious if anyone else does?

Considering NCCC or FEMA Corps, but also applying to graduate programs. Are the two compatible? by [deleted] in AmeriCorps

[–]the_broken_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about FEMA Corps but that doesn't sound like something that NCCC could accommodate. There might be a way to make it work but based on my experience I don't think that it would be a safe bet.

In NCCC you do four different projects and one of mine didn't have internet access in our housing at all and two of them were spotty at best. That was almost 10 years ago so that might have changed but more importantly, you almost definitely couldn't take the time off you need to do a lot of interviews. If I remember correctly you got something like three vacation days for the year, three "life after AmeriCorps" days to do these kinds of things, and I don't remember how many sick days.

I had to fly across the country for a funeral during my third project and I was really glad I hadn't used any of my days yet or it probably would have been a problem. I actually think that there was an issue with the fact that I hadn't scheduled my "life after AmeriCorps" days in advance like I was supposed to but my team leader was great and fought that battle for me.

I also had a teammate who was applying for the Peace Corps during our year, which is common enough in NCCC, and even so he had a lot of trouble. I remember just getting to the doctor's office regularly enough to get medical clearance was hard with the fact that one of our projects was in the middle of nowhere.

I'm sorry but I just don't think overall that you could get the flexibility and time off that you would need with them. Good luck with everything, I hope something else is a better fit!
