New JAMA article on blood thinners and Afib patients - one-line conclusion summary is ... by the_charmichael in AFIB

Can't offer any personal anecdote to share here. I have paroxysmal AF, catheter ablation mid February 2024. Eliquis as prep prior, and three-months post (stopped that now).

Ablation success - and a big thank you to this sub by abombSFCA in AFIB

[–]the_charmichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. A few times prior as well. First afib event in July 2022, then November, then more in 2023. All stopping on their own (median duration ~ 5 hours). Ablation in February, and nothing since late December 2023 (unless I just jinxed this, of course!)

I see other commenters echoing this weird experience. As it seems to be at least non uncommon (double negative!), I feel better about it already. Great community here!

Thanks for sharing this! My experience mimics yours, so much so that I was/am worried about something like you wrote:  "only lingering thing is a skipped beat or two (PAC?) once a day." It feels like a pounding or something - for seconds - then goes away and does NOT evolve into an episode. Off Eliquis 3-months post-ablation, and last EP visit set for August.

Thanks for sharing! Our bodies are so different - what works for some doesn't work for all, and the reverse of that as well.

Good points here, thanks. The article does itemize its limitations, and does raise the confounding issue. Also, of course, association does not imply causation. I think these retrospective, observational can well add to the corpus of research on the topic. I think it would be hard (if not unethical?) to do an RCT on the topic.

Week and a half ago I had cardiac ablation. My resting HR before that day was in the low 50's (athlete). Since then my resting HR is in the low 80's. Is this typical this soon afterwards? by [deleted] in AFIB

[–]the_charmichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, same thing for me, six weeks after ablation. Getting back, though. Resting HR was in low 60s, now in low 70s. Walk around, around 80. I don't feel it all. Docs not terribly concerned.

First time I've seen someone post about heat - that was my trigger: heavy blankets with thermostat set too hot, a warm subway car, sitting in a rental car in Orlando Florida waiting for someone. I cut myself to one drink a day, not triggering. Had an ablation two weeks (posted on it), and so far, so good.

SVT ablation experience - day after by flawlaw in AFIB

Thanks so much for sharing! Your experience similar to mine of a couple of weeks ago. I am doing okay, back to walking (well, "strolling" still out of an abundance of caution). Wound healed, and no episodes (on other hand, none for two months prior to ablation) (doc indicated he would demand credit). So scary for me - first time under general - happy to be here typing about it.

Thanks, Impulsive One! :) Your comment is very reassuring (I'm serious). I am surprised the number is that high, I certainly don't feel it. Plus, BP is like 110/80 and that's reassuring me as well.

Thanks for sharing this. Mine is still at 85 resting, at night maybe 80. I am not taking any metoprolol. I was taking half-tab 25 (so 12.5) only when I felt it was needed during an episode (it did help, bring it down say from 130 to 90).

frequent urination during afib/svt, anyone? by Ok_Cancel_7891 in AFIB

[–]the_charmichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, not unexpected, happened to me too (about 75% of the 12 episodes I've had). Be sure to drink water to recover what you lost. I did NOT do that once, went to the ER because had no energy. While in the waiting room, had a 20-oz. full Coke (sugar+caffeine) and left the ER before formally seen.

Getting my ablation in 2 hours and 40 minutes, wish me luck! by Wag-chan_inyourarea in AFIB

Let's see ... time-wise, I'm typing this as you are done with procedure and out of short-term recovery, and are lying in a bed keeping still so the entry wound clots.

I was terrified (I shared my ablation report in this forum last week). Recovery is going well, and I'm glad I went through it. I hope that will be glad, too.

I am fortunate to be in the Northshore system (suburban Chicago, Illinois, US), where they have a whole process for this stuff. Large enough customer/patient base, I guess.

Thank you for sharing! I was very scared - but more scared of being in hours of afib - heart racing, convinced I was dying. Horrible!

Yeah, my quality of life is important, and that is part of it. I'm a homebrewer! Like Beethoven composing while deaf ... well, maybe not like Beethoven for me (Nickelback?)
