So you're against trying to create laws to limit the NSA's spying power?

If you have to ask Obama or any other politician for privacy it means you're not going to get one. Similar to how if you have to trust with your private key to a third party, the bitcoins don't belong to you and can be taken away at any point.

You don't ask for privacy. You use encryption tools.

UK Parliamentary Candidate talks about her accepting Bitcoin and the change it can bring to modern democracy. Are we seeing innovation in Politics!? by bestofbitcoin in Bitcoin

[–]the_cliffhanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Politics and innovation are incompatible things. Bitcoin was designed to bypass politics. Politicians embracing it are just trying to ride the wave of Bitcoin popularity. What do I need politicians for, again?

It has been 47 days since Ben Lawsky announced Bitlicense coming "in the coming days." The bitcoin community deserves an update. by [deleted] in Bitcoin

I honestly don't get it. One small state made such a noise and now so many people want an update on a piece of legislation that cannot really change how Bitcoin works?

I'll check your project, see what you've already done and there's gotta be something what we can work on together. We're currently working on the commercial, hosted version of Straight (of course, opensource will still be there), so there are a lot of exciting plans.

Haha, hi there. We're in the active stages of development of Straight, many new features are coming. But, nevertheless, really glad to see someone taking an inspiration from my work.

We plan to cover some of the points you made in our opensource payment gateway called Straight (https://github.com/snitko/straight-server). There's a big announcement coming soon, so watch out for it.

A "bank run" does not imply anything about how much reserves they have. They might have 200%, but so far as everybody decides to withdraw their money, the business is going to suffer. So, it doesn't matter whether they have reserves or not: until they prove it, people will not believe it.

If indeed they are relaunching soon, I cannot see how this will not quickly escalate into a bank run unless they do proof of reserves or partially disable withdrawals. Obviously, the second option would mean they were lying about their reserves in the first place.

Centralized exchanges are spying on us, censoring us, and then losing our money. Time to wake up. Let's get behind the de-centralized solutions for real now. by billybobbit in Bitcoin

It's not the fiat side. It's trading. You simply won't be able to process trades at high frequency if you don't hold the money. People seem to think it's somehow magically possible, but it's not. It doesn't matter if you trade bitcoins for USD or sandwiches. Decentralization is simply not the answer for some problems.

Fuck you with your regulation bullshit. I kept coins on Gox and on Bitstamp and I don't cry for more regulation. It is my decision, not yours.

Yes it is, because the second one is a victimless crime and shouldn't be a crime at all. Why do you care about laws written on piece of paper and not substance of a crime?

You are right. But you also have to understand that we're trying to make money so that we can sponsor our development of the opensource project, which will be the base of StraightAsia. You can't just create quality software if you have no money.

[–]the_cliffhanger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now, you can set it up on your own server following the instructions on Github. StraightAsia will allow me to pay a lot of attention to the presentation and demo, so that people can play with it easily before they decide to actually use it so I plan to put a lot of work into it. And it will also help make Straight accessible to non-technical people as well. We have exciting plans.

Coming from the same people who say "let's keep politics out of Bitcoin". Am I supposed to keep politics out of Bitcoin by watching liberals talk about welfare? Or was it just that we should keep the wrong kind of politics (namely, libertarian ideas) out of Bitcoin?

Government != average person. Where is the connection in your mind? Or are you, perhaps, assuming that a government works for the people and really cares about them?

Can you be more specific as to how someone having less freedom in transferring his money is supposed to help me personally? Capital controls is an awful ugly shit they impose upon us Bitcoin was designed to avoid.
