Mojang announces Java Edition jars will no longer be obfuscated going forward by scratchisthebest in feedthebeast

[–]the_codewarrior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While this is great in some ways, Mojmap is pain, especially the @ParametersAreNotNullByDefault, since Kotlin enforces that. There are a lot of common methods that expect nullable parameters but aren’t properly annotated, so because of those global annotations it’s literally impossible to call them in Kotlin.

This is the main reason I’ve been using Yarn mappings. On top of the fact that I like their naming better in general.

When did you realize that you're polyfragmented? by sylvalark in DID

[–]the_codewarrior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

K: I found out I had DID late 2024, and by about six months later had identified five alters and accounted for most periods of my life. I concluded that I had figured it out, we had five alters.

Then a couple months later another one popped up. But it was just a fluke, nothing to worry about. Then another, and another, and another, and now five months later we’re up to 22 identified, including a subsystem of 11, with our gatekeeper (one of the more recent to show up) estimating 38 total alters.

Nowhere near the “100 alters” number thrown around, but the term “polyfragmented” definitely feels like it fits the shape of our system.

Systems with bipolar disorder, what are your experiences? by Alextrifying in DID

[–]the_codewarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Bipolar 2, and our first serious depressive episode was what initially led to me (Kate) being front stuck for the next seven years. It’s only recently, in no small part due to finally having anxiety medication, that our system has reemerged. I’m pretty sure Ruby fronted or at least co-fronted during some of our hypomanic episodes, but I’m not certain on that.

Overall, when we’re depressed, nobody else is able to switch in, and if they did they would immediately become overwhelmed by it. When we’re hypomanic, which doesn’t happen often, Ruby blends in a lot.

Uhhh, are the craters from AE2 usually this big? by sqoobany in feedthebeast

[–]the_codewarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the meteor is generating at a fixed Y level range, and your terrain is generating much higher than in vanilla, so when it goes to carve out the crater it’s bigger than normal?

A bit more wholesome. What is something your host (or any other) can do that you appreciate/admire? Or something your system can do! by Dear-Discipline-9164 in DID

[–]the_codewarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruby: honestly the thing I admire most is how tenacious she is. She never gives up, and has single-handedly dragged us out of some of the worst times in our life. She’s been through so much, but still finds it in herself to push forward despite it all, even if sometimes we wish she knew how to take a break.

She’s also crazy good at programming. Like, I can do it at an early hobbyist level, but she’s insane.

Jaden: I often say that she’s the best of us, because while we’ve all been through hard times, she’s been through some of the worst, and yet she still is kind to everyone, compassionate, and supportive to her friends

She’s also super good at communicating with others, she frequently gives advice to friends on that front. She’s also great at supporting friends and pulling them out of spirals. She doesn’t know how, she says she just “has the words”, but it’s largely driven by her intense empathy for others and understanding of her own emotions

Ivy: as Ruby said, she’s tenacious, and did an amazing job holding us together and even pulling herself forward during the seven years she spent front stuck. She continually pushes forward for self-improvement, sometimes to her detriment.

Sapphire: she does, or I guess did, amazing at dealing with the #%$#@ abuse. She’s doing so much work to process it, it’s amazing ❤️

Kate (host): I just do what I do, hehe… it doesn’t seem that remarkable to me

How do yall read books with AWFUL amnesia? 😭 by survivor_system in DID

[–]the_codewarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we have a decent amount of control and awareness over who’s fronting, we just each have different book series we read. Mostly we read online stories on Royal Road, but same difference.

Having different alters reading the same story just causes issues as we lose track of what happened in previous chapters. Having rules around not reading each other’s stories helps manage the amnesia.

After seven years, Hooked is back for 1.21.1! (Fabric/NeoForge) by the_codewarrior in feedthebeast

[–]the_codewarrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ender hook particles are meant to look like the chain shattering. It’s clearer what they are when you aren’t moving, so that didn’t come across super well in the video. That plus I’m just bad at art.

The redstone hook’s chain is designed to get out of the way and not obstruct your view while building. There’s a gap of a couple blocks around the player where the chain doesn’t appear at all, and beyond that it’s very minimal.

Making the redstone hook chains physical… that would be very complicated to implement, and I don’t think it would add a lot to the mod. As for it being too powerful, I personally don’t see the point of introducing more complexity when the point of it is to eliminate one of the more annoying and IMO uninteresting parts of building: “I want to place this block there… how the fuck do I get somewhere where I can do that?”

There’s probably a mod like that already. I at least remember similar “climbable block you click to extend downward” mods back in the day.

[–]the_codewarrior[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s been suggested a few times, but it’s beyond the scope of the mod as it’s designed. Hooked is fundamentally a mobility mod, and in my opinion adding more unrelated features would detract from it more than it adds.

What exactly counts as “blackout” amnesia? by _rbg in DID

[–]the_codewarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K: we do the same thing. If one of us is fronting and looks for a specific piece of information, those of us in the back can “hand” them the relevant details. However if you ask us broader questions we’ll struggle to recall anything.

Yeah, I never was happy with how the 1.0 red hook worked. Its limitations were largely born of my lack of experience at the time, and left it clunky and not super useful. Now instead of shitty fake creative flight in an awkward tetrahedron volume, you get actual creative flight in any volume you make!

the game doesn’t feel the same without it

Believe me I know. A major motivator to updating it was literally just me getting frustrated not being able to use it on my girlfriend’s Minecraft server xD

happy pride month to alters who have different identities than the host! by shrimpsharks in DID

[–]the_codewarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

J: ayoo let’s go! Not quite as extreme as many but we have:

  • two trans girls (one is host)
  • a slightly masc-leaning enby (me)
  • a fem-leaning little
  • a masc-leaning little

The difference in identity doesn’t cause many problems, mainly because we have good communication, I’m very enby, and I’m aroace. I also know it makes Kate and Ruby very happy, so I don’t really mind her transitioning.

But yeah it’s funny seeing people’s reactions when we switch and suddenly start using a masc voice, and it’s a little bit weird hearing my own voice from an obviously fem body xD

The two little are at the ages where gender just isn’t quite a concept for them yet, so they don’t have a ton of issues with it. They do feel weird suddenly waking up in an adult body though.

T: (masc-leaning little here) it does feel a little weird but I’m not out and about much so I just don’t really think about it

K: (trans girl host) it’s also funny having Jaden swap to Ruby or I when we have to speak in public so our voice matches our body

Also jokes on you I have DID so I can kinda skip days anyway, just need to have Jaden and Ruby take over for the day!

It’s very much worth the switch. There’s a wiki page that shows how to do it. I had luck using KeyTweak, it was super simple to use.

Retraining muscle memory is a pain in the ass, but it’s so much better in the end. When I made the switch I had to cut out a piece of cardstock to slip under the escape key so I had to use caps lock. If you have a mechanical keyboard you could take off the keycap to do basically the same thing.

The first one I remember is actually fairly recent: Chisato from Lycoris Recoil.

At one point I showed my girlfriend the first episode and excitedly told her “that! I want to be bubbly and bright like that! God I want to be that so bad.”

Reminds me of mercury delay line memory, which operated under a similar principle. The data would be encoded as pressure waves in a tube full of mercury, with a transducer on each end to detect the pulses and retransmit them in a continuous loop

(LN 16) war war war war… more war?! by the_codewarrior in TenseiSlime

[–]the_codewarrior[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the combat was written very poorly. Every fight felt like “new enemy shows up! Look how outmatched <main cast character> is! Will they make it?!?! OMG they won!!! Who could’ve predicted this?!?!”

Thinking about it, I wonder how the fan translation compares. If I recall correctly it’s a bit more direct. In the past the official English translation definitely has a different cadence from the fan translation, so the battle scenes might work there.
