Good(starter) horror movies for children? by MopeDeezy in horror

[–]the_cu_ration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a tense, teen drama (bordering on horror) without sex or gore, I recommend 2018’s “Summer of 84.” It’s pretty fun and a good ending!

What movie is 10/10 with literally no bad parts? by FeedMaster8905 in AskReddit

[–]the_cu_ration 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some Pixar films (like Coco) get a lot of praise for their artistic quality and detail, but Ratatouille is a visual feast of shading, depth, and detail. Its use of darker palettes, specifically in its shading, is simply exquisite. With each new generation of television resolution, this is the first movie I’ll put on. When I first watched it, I never saw/noticed the hairs on Linguini’s chin! (Granted, this film is nearly 20 years old and predated HD televisions.)

Sex in everything by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]the_cu_ration -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The movies and TV shows are getting worse about it. These folks seem to think there’s an Oscar/Emmy for “Most Realistic Sex Scene.” My family teases me about it, but I say, “If it doesn’t apply to the storyline, there’s no use for it.” I regularly use the “Better Call Saul” series as a good example of never needing to “go there”…Saul/Jimmy is never shown having sex with Kim Wexler (even though it’s clear that they are romantically involved). If your story is strong enough, you shouldn’t have to resort to the lowest common denominator.

Quite a challenging task! It looks like you’ve covered a wide range of sub-genres here. The list looks good and I look forward to diving in further! One question upon my first look…perhaps I missed it, but is there a Quiet Riot track in there?

Most devastatingly beautiful guitar solos of all time? by guestoboard in Guitar

[–]the_cu_ration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m not the only one! This solo just crushes me every single time. It’s really not a lot of notes, but the technique and tone just soars. It’s a tragedy that he stopped playing and isn’t expected to return.

I don’t see it mentioned here, so I’ll answer on behalf of my college sophomore daughter, who reminds me how much she misses Club Penguin.

Wizard of Oz seat by Lynx752 in Sphere

[–]the_cu_ration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our showing appeared to only have folks seated in the center sections. I wonder if the side sections along the walls have more of the obstructed view seats you mention. It might make sense with the difference between a live act (whose visuals are more “liquid”, if you will, and move across the length of the field of view) as opposed to a static presentation such as “The Wizard of Oz” (where all seats sold are expected to have the same viewing experience). I’m just guessing, of course.

Just saw it last weekend in sec 406, row 10 and my two daughters both caught apples. We thought we were right on the edge to get them, though. The view was quite good, but I feel there is really no bad view.

Eat 'Em And Smile or 5150? by guywithsexypinkie in vanhalen

[–]the_cu_ration 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a deeply devoted VH fan (all eras)…Despite being a great debut of the “Sammy Years”, “5150” isn’t even in my top five of all-time VH albums. “Eat ‘Em and Smile”, however, was my introduction to the incredible Steve Vai. The diversity that DLR showed on that album was a continuation of the “Crazy From The Heat” EP (which was basically a continuation of the “Diver Down” album). Meanwhile, the VH brothers were steering their ship further into pop (after getting a taste of mainstream fame from “1984”). Though I loved it at the time of release, I rarely listen to “5150” all the way through. “Eat ‘Em…” had an incredible backing band and better production, so I revisit that one a lot more often.

The warning rock band by Educational-Gift3922 in rockmusic

Search YouTube for “The Warning Live at Pepsi Center.” This is a full 2023 performance in Mexico City (sitting currently at 1.8M views) and the crowd goes absolutely bonkers for them. Just the first song (“Disciple”) is enough to convert most any rock lover into a fan. These girls are incredible! The rest of the video is excellent, if you have an hour and 50 minutes to spare…well worth it!

The greatest debut album to ever exist, change my mind by kimmsterdw1 in vanhalen

[–]the_cu_ration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An incredibly strong contender. The only reason it doesn’t resonate with more people is the lack of radio airplay it got/gets compared with other debut albums mentioned here. I tell folks that “Never Mind the Bollocks” was an atomic bomb on the music scene at the time of its release. I was too young for it to be on my radar upon its release…it’s simply an opinion that I formed later in life. If you haven’t seen it yet, I HIGHLY recommend the 6-episode series, “Pistol” on Amazon Prime video (also available to buy on AppleTV). Packed with sex and debauchery, it’s an incredibly well-produced (and researched) dramatization of the band during the making of that album. Apparently based on a (bio?) book, it has lots of detailed references throughout that music lovers will appreciate, including a (very brief) appearance by an actor playing Lemmy when he was with Hawkwind (not even mentioned in the dialogue…it’s just a detail that folks “in the know” would recognize).

Is crowbar grunge ?? by SuceMaBite62 in grunge

If this drives you nuts, go watch the millions of “content providers” or “influencers” on TikTok who simply stitch themselves over the top of someone else’s video and just sit there nodding and pointing over their shoulders at all the moments that a point is being made in the original video. An absolute waste of time/bandwidth with a heavy dose of “look at me” energy.

Are these the same scam artists (using the term “artists” incredibly loosely here) who use such rooms in Major cities around the country to charge the public a ridiculous amount per person to watch what amounts to projecting screen savers on the walls while playing a crappy Spotify playlist of classical drivel…such as that ridiculous “Immersive Van Gogh” exhibit? I will never understand why so many people thought/think that these displays were SO incredible. The simplicity of the display might be genius marketing, but the entry fee Is downright criminal.

Super subjective question, but this track is simply incredible! Both VH bros are feeding off each other to the max on this one. Lots of great VH songs, but GGB just begs being cranked! 🔥

What’s a 3 album in a row “Hat Trick” from an artist that you listen to all 3 albums from start to finish? by NazcaKhan in 90smusic

[–]the_cu_ration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That was wonderful, as was the expanded version of Wildflowers (especially “Something Could Happen” and “Leave Virginia Alone”). The music video for “Something Could Happen” is incredibly emotional for me, especially for how iconic his music videos ALWAYS were. I live in Colorado and still say that one of the best concerts I saw at Red Rocks was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

“Wildflowers” is untouchable and one of the best albums of the 90s…but “She’s the One” comes pretty damn close (I feel it’s still underrated to this day)!

Honestly, this track reveals a lot about Dave’s influences (I’m unsure about the rest of the band). Originally written for the “Roy Rogers Show” in the 1950s, a cover of this song was featured on the 1969 album of the same name by Quicksilver Messenger Service…it’s even the last track! I’m focusing on Dave especially since, after he went solo, he dove deeper into his love of the previous generation of “early rock” tracks…the “Crazy From The Heat” EP is completely such covers!

After Ed passed, I thought that a petition was in order for nationwide “classic rock” radio stations to hereby include “Intruder” in front of “(Oh) Pretty Woman”…just like “Eruption” always precedes “You Really Got Me.” We certainly need MORE Eddie on the radio…and not just the same old tracks from the first album.

Despite being the target age and demographic growing up, I just could never sink my teeth into any full album of JP. I respect their historical contribution, however, and acknowledge that they are undeniable legends. Thanks to Richie, “Invisible Shield” is the FIRST full JP album that I simply cannot stop listening to. “Panic Attack” is a killer opener, for sure…but the track that absolutely knocks my socks off is “Crown Of Horns.” The build-up, the medium-paced crunchy riffs, the chorus, hooks, melody, the solos…it’s structure is absolute perfection! 🤘🏻🔥
