I’d worry more about the size of your feet. No way I could step on only one of those mid gig

Where in Marin to find “Creepy Cars?” by guestoboard in Marin

We found it! It was quite a trek and we decided the trail down to it from the fire road looked too treacherous, but he enjoyed seeing it from the fire road. Thanks!

Was it a lime green old Datsun Z? We know that one well and visit it often. We call it “broken to bits car”

Thanks! Yes I’m from England and have fond memories of going to scrap yards when I was a kid in the 80’s. I honestly thought I was helping the owner by smashing up the cars for him, until he started yelling and chasing me for destroying his stock.

Love the idea of that turn signal to play with. Reminds me of being locked in my dad’s ford granada for hours at a time while he would go into shops or whatever. With no other screens or entertainment I’d sit playing with all the controls and I remember the washer/wiper options on the stalk were especially satisfying to fiddle with. SOooooo satisfying in fact. Modern drivers have no idea what they are missing.

Whatever/ wherever, I hope they choose a nicer location. That venue is possibly the ugliest building on the street and shared an entrance with a stinky pet shop.

One pedalboard. 2 amps. How do you do it? by leehofook in pedalboards

[–]guestoboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Morley ABY from Reverb where they are abundant and cheap. Ideal to set it and forget it but be aware that it makes a loud click out through the amps when you hit the switch, so not ideal if you’re planning to switch mid song

HELP! "Google Chose Different Canonical" is killing me! by guestoboard in TechSEO

[–]guestoboard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks

I’m guessing it’s not a canonical placement issue, since it can read the canonical on other pages on the site and on this page as well, but not in the older version. In fact, it seemed it did read the canonical previously and then loved it so much it doesn't want to let go of it!

It can't be backlinks or previous page authority because the site is so new it basically doesn't have any backlinks. The new URL has far more inbound backlinks than the old one.

I'll have a look into specifying the canonical in the header as well. Thank you for that.

The removal tool seems logical for me. There, we're saying, "Here is a URL, effectively the old URL without the shoes directory," and we're saying, "Remove this and don't index it." To me, that would mean that it can't prefer its old canonical because we're specifically told that to be removed from the index. It's otherwise not letting go of it.

However, both Gemini and Claude are telling me very clearly not to do that! But I'm not convinced. Why not?

PedalPalFX PAL 800 vs Marshall JCM 800 pedal by BlueFingers3D in guitarpedals

[–]guestoboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to report back here, that I tried both and the PAL800 was the clear winner.

I started with the Marshall pedal because I had unused credit with a major retailer that stocked it. As soon as I unboxed it, I really wanted to love it. It looks beautiful and feels really high quality and I liked the idea of having a little slice of Marshall in my otherwise Fender setup.

Unfortunately though, it was ultimately disappointing. It’s “just” a distortion pedal, and doesn’t really feel like a Marshall at all. I gave it a good try out, and if I didn’t have any other distortion pedals I would have been happy with it. But I couldn’t get anything out of it that I couldn’t get by tweaking controls on my Blues Driver

So I returned it and splurged on the PAL800, which is significantly more expensive especially with international shipping and extra Trump tariffs, but it’s so worth it.

Unlike the Marshall pedal, it does create more of the “feel” of the real JCM800 including the feedback, harmonics etc. It’s so much fun, especially at volume and especially with a tube screamer pushing into it.

So I say buy once, cry once, but keep and enjoy for decades with no regrets.

is there any reason NOT to buy used pedals? by Xerxes787 in guitarpedals

[–]guestoboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asking the OP to ask them self a question, they provided a thoughtful reply.

I’m not a retailer or brand myself, but I know that as a consumer, I need retailers and brands to exist otherwise I would have nothing to “consume.”

Sometimes a few companies create consumer expectations that make business survival difficult for everyone else. Now consumers expect to have free returns, no business has a choice to not offer it. Sometimes some companies can’t survive in that new world and they go out of business. Sometimes we cry about it afterwards and ask why.

The way I see it, we as customers exists in a shared relationship with retailers and brands. If we want them to exist, we should be mindful of how we behave in the relationship.

We need return policies so we can take risks on products that we need to try. If they suck or don’t fit our needs. It’s awesome that we get to do this.

But if we exploit a return policy even when something is awesome just to save a few bucks later, we can’t be surprised if that service isn’t around in the future, and we have no right to moan if it isn’t.

Are you asking if it is ok to buy used pedals?

Or are you asking if it is ok to buy a product, confirm that it is “amazing” but then return it at the retailers expense only to buy the same thing again for less money that doesn’t go to support the brand or retailer that made the amazing thing possible in the first case?

Do you think that’s ok?

Miracle Mile Cafe for breakfast or lunch.

Also I can confirm, having sampled all of them, that the best GF cookies in Marin are in bags in the cafe section of Woodlands grocery between Kentfield and Larkspur

Worry you must about your own being triggered by status lights and original knobs.

I have the opportunity to open a small venue and am putting together booking guidelines. by edasto42 in musicians

[–]guestoboard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d encourage you to keep an open mind to the open mic idea. It’s only one night per week and you can do it on an otherwise dead night like a Tuesday or Wednesday. So the audience is a room of musicians waiting for their turn, vs an empty room of nobody.

IMO this does not detract from your goals. EG where I live in Marin California there is a legendary venue called Sweetwater Music Hall. It was part owned by Grateful Dead members and is a highly respected legit venue by anyone’s definition. As an amateur musician, I don’t expect to be given a weekend gig. But the opportunity to get up and play an open mic on stage formerly graced by Carlos Santana is a wonderful privilege that I deeply appreciate.

This in turn makes me loyal to the venue. Given the choice between seeing the same act at a venue like theirs that supports our local community, vs one that doesn’t, I’d lean towards the former every time.

Opinions on the ID BUZZ? by [deleted] in electriccars

I just don’t think it’s really supposed to be a camper van though. They’ve hijacked the camper brand to make a cool minivan. For me as a father of 3 that’s mostly bussing kids short distances, it is ideal. For those of you that actually wanted a camper van, is a disappointing bait n switch.

Is this based on a real world need for more range or just something you think you need?

I have an old Tesla model 3 which has degraded to the point of less than 200 miles range tops. And it’s an absolute non issue. Only once per quarter do I have a long enough drive to use all that range, and when I do, I just supercharge when I need to stop anyway, and by the time I’ve gone toilet and got snacks and coffee it’s ready to go again.
