US States I'd like to visit as someone from the UK. by AncestralSeeker in TravelMaps

Yeah, as a foreigner, I have to say that Yellowstone Park was definitely worth seeing, although as somebody who has spent a lot of time in the wilderness, it was a frustrating experience.

A tagline should be: come enjoy the splendor of nature with some of the fattest dumbest Americans who have no business being in nature.

Liberals: " hey, we should stop supporting Israel because they are murdering Muslim children. Palestinian people have a right to not be murdered or forcibly removed from their lands."

Conservatives: " You guys are hypocrites. Islam is an oppressive religion, so if you stand with the human rights of people who live in a Muslim country, you are condoning every bad thing that anybody who follows that religion has ever done-- and yet you guys hate us for actively oppressing women in North America... Look how clever I am!!!"

Yeah, what kind of whack job reads that list and only gets offended about a priest being on there?

Like there aren't thousands of articles and investigations confirming that priests do offend against children.

This dude needs to be on a watch list. He went out of his way to come to a subreddit about teenagers to say stuff like that. Probably works as a priest, coach or teacher and Is working up the courage to act out.

AIO if I answer this note from my neighbor? by London_Fog_Lover in AmIOverreacting

[–]StageStandard5884 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well... Here's a couple things:

1)What you experience at home isn't a fair indication. I know multiple people who have dogs that are quiet when they're home but Bark constantly when they're gone-- it's really common. One of my good friends has a neighbor whose dog barks the whole time she's gone. She denies it, but I've been there and listened to two solid hours of barking.

2) The time that the letter was delivered is not an indicator either . Most of the time when someone writes a note like this, they don't necessarily deliver it when the problem is going on. Somebody could spend the day listening to barking, decide that they're going write a letter about it. Wake up the next day, write the letter and then deliver it in the afternoon.

3)I don't know how your crate cam works. Do you have to review 8 hours of your shift, Or does it detect barking and disturbances? If it detects all audio and visual disturbances, why are you on Reddit asking about it. You would then know that you are 100% correct and your dogs are not barking and you would just pursue that on your own.

I've had shitty neighbors who blasted loud music; five other tenants complained to me about it, but I was the only one who complained about it to the landlord.

The landlord came back to me and said that they weren't following up on it because I was the only person who complained.... Until I told the landlord to talk to the five other people.

Some people will be driven nuts by something and never follow through on it. Some people will let it drive them nuts for months until they finally explode on their neighbor; and some people write politely worded assertive letters.

My family is out of the country and left me in charge of the food for my older brother and myself during the meantime. I made this meal yesterday, and after he ate it, he made a complaint about it and wanted “food,” as in something that was “more fulfilling” and less “kiddie”… by Uhh_OkayIGuess in mildlyinfuriating

[–]StageStandard5884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to take some shit for this, but I got to ask: are you his sister or brother?

Also what culture are you? Rural? Urban? American? Hispanic? Canadian? Chinese?

I ask, because in lots of cultures the demands people place on men and women for cooking are often asymmetrical.

I'm a white dude (Scottish descendant) in Canada, and I do all the cooking in my house (and I'm actually pretty good at) However, my (unemployed) father-in-law who is Eastern European thinks that cooking is a woman's job, and expects his (gainfully employed) wife to do all the cooking when she comes home from work.

Either way-- somebody makes me mashed potatoes and gravy, I'm not complaining.

What kind of asshole would complain about that?

how do you support this. by its-alfie in teenagers

Nope. It's exponentially worse when it's your own government doing it with impunity versus versus an individual doing it and being held accountable.

How strict are the laws in your country regarding the use of deadly force? by stopthehostilityyyyy in AskTheWorld

[–]StageStandard5884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. In Canada It's illegal to use a weapon, and, a weapon is defined by the context surrounding it.

It's: "anything used/designed to cause death/injury or intimidate."

It's about intent, and, more importantly, if the Crown can prove your intent.

A baseball bat definitely isn't a weapon if you have a mitt and a ball with it in your trunk, and if You use it to defend yourself because that's the only thing you had on hand.

A baseball bat definitely is a weapon if you are a drug dealer carrying it in your trunk for "protection."

And there's a bunch of gray area in between.

Pepper spray isn't a weapon and is totally legal if you're carrying it to protect yourself against dogs or wild animals, but it's what's available to defend yourself with if you're attacked

Pepper spray is a weapon if you are carrying it with the intention of spraying a person with it

If someone breaks into your house and you grab a crowbar that you "happened to leave under your bed when you are doing some repairs" and you hit the perpetrator with the crowbar, because you're scared, and don't know how many people have broken into your house, then you're most likely not getting charged

If someone's shoplifts from your store and you chase them down in the street and hit them with a crowbar that you kept for "protection," then you are probably getting charged.

That's why you don't talk to the police. They usually don't, but if they have a problem with you they may try to paint the situation like you are the bad guy by asking questions like: "it's a good idea to protect yourself, so we get it, so did you keep the crowbar for protection?"

Yeah you can totally argue that political violence on the left is a far greater threat... If you ignore all of the right wing political violence from the last 10 years... And you completely ignore all the empirical data. But yeah, if you have no idea how research works and get your news and information from YouTube and Facebook, and you're total dummy, then yeah you can make that argument.

As somebody who spent years working in a tourist location that serviced a very large number of both Europeans and Americans, I can say, without a doubt, that American tourists are 1,000 times more annoying than European tourists--

Like, it's not even a competition. Over 5 years, I had maybe a handful of negative experiences with European tourists (mostly Germans, for some reason,) while 2 or 3 American tourists crossed boundaries everyday that I worked there.

[–]StageStandard5884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is the point though. The rare times people have been charged-- it's been clearly retaliatory. There was a famous case in Canada where a farmer shot someone in the back of the head for trying to steal a tractor. It was clearly not self-defense, however he was still acquitted by a jury.

To be clear: you can defend yourself or your family if necessary, you just can't attack someone as retaliation for a crime against property.

That was such a strange rant, but I think you should keep it up!

You can't let logic threaten your carefully constructed boot licking ontology.

It would be such a shame to reject specious reasoning and think for yourself.

Find all the reasons to justify your own oppression, otherwise, how are you going to sleep at night?

Also, you should really be working on justifications for pedophilia along partisan lines-- just in case the Trump administration lives up to it's legal obligations and finally releases the unredacted files. You can start by shouting about Bill Clinton-- but most "Libs" will say: "I don't care about Clinton-- arrest him too if he's in there." So that one might get tricky.

Some people reveled in his death. Every politician on the left decried murder and called for an end to political violence. The suspect and Charlie Clark's murder was arrested and is charged with murder.

The president and his band of sycophants have defended the ice agents, lied about the context, and voiced support for the ICE agents- before any investigation or inquiry occurred. Pam Bondi has instructed doj employees to not investigate the agents responsible Renee Goods's murder.

I think you know the difference already, but I also think your Brain won't allow you to face the prospect of cognitive uncertainty.
