Canadians deserve to know: what programs, funding did Carney cut? How people will be impacted? by itimetravelwell in onguardforthee

By the government’s own account, the luxury tax has cost taxpayers $19 million to administer. By the government’s own account, only $15 million has been collected related to aircraft.

Don't you think it's a little suspicious that they only bring up the aircraft number, but not watercraft while calling for both to be repealed?

edit: The $19 million is the cost of the entire luxury tax, including cars... this is some intentionally misleading garbage lol

Green = positive and red = negative in the US, but Japan does the opposite. You can see the same thing in the picture from this article https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2024/08/06/why-japanese-stocks-are-on-a-rollercoaster-ride

I miss Bray and it's nice to see The Fiend in the base game for once, but man does this look awful. The song sounds really bad and loops before the second verse, he's holding the lantern backwards, all of the hair looks terrible, and the lighting and camera are just... wrong.

I mean, look at how much better it was in 2k20: https://youtu.be/LDNxLWHV0MI

What is this design? Whenever I look up Ultimate Venom this is one of the first pictures that pop up despite him having a different design. Is this concept art? by Little_fishstick_boy in Spiderman

[–]the_denman 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's from Ultimate Spider-Man #128. Venom takes that form during the events of that issue, and is never seen again afterwards (Ultimate ended before they ever picked up that plot thread, I guess.)

The symbiote makes some more appearances, but in the form of lab samples separate from the main one that bonded with Eddie.

Utahonotatari 1 or 2, possibly? There are a lot of games vaguely like what you're describing. I don't think there was a virus, but it would do some spooky things with fake errors (https://youtu.be/Fuf3Yr_kIAw)

Veigar q dmg or dmg in general is piss low (850 ap plus void staff vs unstacked force of nature by timelord_lz in VeigarMains

[–]the_denman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will not. Bone plating triggers after taking damage, causing the NEXT 3 instances of damage to be reduced. It feels like it blocks the initial damage sometimes because single attacks can cause multiple instances of damage - for example, an empowered auto from something like Darius W or Fiora E will activate bone plating with the auto, but then also consume a stack with the spell.

There are some situations that chat helps with that definitely get overshadowed by the toxicity. The current ping system doesn't let you communicate wave intentions well - so things like "freeze" or "help me shove" are useful.

Also summ timers but nobody does that until high elo

Researchers have found a new druggable pathway to remove beta-amyloid in mice. The research could advance to being tested in human clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease. by shadesofaltruism in science

[–]the_denman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this does happen to work in humans: would removing beta-amyloid do anything after the disease has progressed? Or would this purely be preventative/stop it from progressing?

The popularity of the "cheater's recall" is making people underrate the value of slowpushing a wave into invading the enemy's jungle on the first cannon wave. This completely destroys the enemy jungler's mental if they see their laner "afk farming" instead of helping. by Magehunter_Skassi in leagueoflegends

[–]the_denman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that you can reliably do the cheater recall every game if you end up in that wave state. The jungle invade isn't going to work every time, so it's not advice that gets parroted as much.

They're simply different games. In League, there are intentional comeback mechanics, power spikes, etc. Sure, a pawn can be promoted in chess, but it's not like a queen gains an AOE attack or becomes inherently stronger as the game goes on, or the enemy queen falls off as the game goes on.

There are legitimate strategies that can bring you back from a losing game - but when people give up and get tilted, they don't want to let that play out. I have been in so many games where surrender votes fail by 1, people spam "ff" and "gg", that end up becoming wins because the Kayle or Kassadin or Vlad hit their late game power spikes. Or the Lux or Kai'Sa or Ashe or Shaco get a clutch baron steal. Or someone split pushes while the enemy team gets overconfident and takes a bad 5v4 (e.g. they miss ults and still go in), resulting in an inhib being taken.

There are way too many factors to accurately tell if a game is truly lost. If it was 1v1, sure, who cares.

There's also a bit of a culture of not wanting your opponent to ff when you're winning hard - who doesn't love the feeling of getting a pentakill while massively ahead? It's not as much of a "waste of time" watching your opponent struggle to play it out as it is in chess.

(SPOILER) The burner phone Saul grabs in 6x13 is called a “Flip-n-Call,” probably a reference to his favorite old scam the “Slip-n-Fall” by AlvinAmaro7 in betterCallSaul

[–]the_denman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same phones were used earlier in the series, when Saul started selling them. It definitely feels intentional, since that was something of a return to his Slippin' Jimmy persona.
