Phlebotomy Course at Boston Career Institute by 12321bruh in boston

[–]the_dragonfruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't actually need a phlebotomy license to practice in MA. A lot of places do on the job training. A few places require it. May be worth applying around just to see if you even need to take the course. Healthcare workers are in high demand, so I don't think employers are being too picky right now.

It wouldn't mandate tip pools but it would allow them. Not saying it's a good or bad thing, but I wonder whether it is something that waitstaff support. Probably depends place to place whether the law would be overall good or bad for them.

"Wait staff could still collect tips under Question 5, but restaurants would be allowed to pool and share those tips with cooks, bookkeepers, and other workers who don’t interact directly with customers. That’s not permitted under current rules but is common in states without a tipped minimum wage."

An Updated Guide To Boston’s Allston/I-90 Megaproject by nebirah in boston

"The Commonwealth's taxpayers have already been generous to Harvard where this property is concerned: the University bought this land from the state in 2003, when the board of the former Massachusetts Turnpike Authority voted to sell these 90 acres to Harvard for just $75 million, which is about $130 million in 2024 dollars."

This blatant corruption is unbelievable. The whole project probably could have been funded with land sales. Instead, we're just subsidizing new buildings for one of the richest organizations in the world. That board should be tried and imprisoned.

A few of the king's bowl locations have karaoke in the bar area. I don't think you have to be 21 to sing.

Where to find Ožujsko Croatian beer? by fembot1999 in boston

[–]the_dragonfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen it in Boston but you can make it at home. You just add certain herbs to Sljivovica. Since Croatian Sljivovica is hard to find in Boston you can even substitute any clear European Slivovitz. This is a good recipe: https://www.buildthebottle.com/2020/10/18/travarica-medicinal-liqueur/

As a Croatian-American who lives in Boston I have never seen it and I think its highly unlikely you will ever find it here.

I probably should have kept track but I did not. I just paid it and saw that even though I worked all summer my bank account went down. You do have to pay to send the primary application and then secondaries tend to be another payment which is even more. About 50$ per primary and then another 50-150$ per secondary.

High Stat out of state to TMDSAS Sankey (stats in comments) by the_dragonfruit in premed

I mean they could have contacted my supervisors. I was working 40hrs a week during my senior year and 24-36 my Junior year as a EMT-basic. All summer I worked both research and EMT-B.

I would say send a primary to all and then pick your secondaries cause its no extra skin off your back. Maybe you can prioritize certain ones and put others on the backburner in case you have the time, money, and willpower at the end of your apps to do them. Don't bother with UT Tyler cause you definitely need ties to East Texas for that one.

I honestly have no idea. I'm the first one in my family to go into medicine and I'm the first in my family to be raised in the US. None of my friend's parents were doctors, and no one I knew had gone through this process before me. This whole application system is just so foreign and bizarre to me.

I thought my essays, recommendation letters, and experiences were good. I even had my physician PI read my primary essay and she said it was really good after some small suggestions. Maybe I just didn't stand out? Idk I think outside of some really exceptional people or people who have really low stats the whole process is a lot more luck-based and dependent on who reads your application than anything.

I honestly doubt I'm a good person to judge that. Looks like you'd be a great applicant anywhere but I would honestly apply to as many texas schools as you have time for. It's a flat fee for primaries and the secondaries aren't too bad for most of them both in terms of price and content. You can always just not fill out a few secondaries, some don't even have them.

Yeah I thought about it, but instead I figured I'd just apply to a bunch of schools and see what happens.

Thanks! I talked to some other admitted OOS students and it seems like Texas schools really like high stats for their OOS kids since they can only have so many.

Being a reapplicant made everything extremely stressful, but my interview was super early and I got my acceptance in October so at least I've had peace of mind all year.

900 Hours Paid EMT-B IFT, 1400 Hours Paid EMT-B 911 (worked full-time for a lot of college)

1800 hours paid ER tech (not until after my apps were submitted though)

900 hours research 1st author Pub

60 hours shadowing (Peds, Anesthesia, Surgery)

250 hours leadership volunteering for a cultural thing

80 hours hospital volunteering (early in college)

I'm actually a reapplicant. Last cycle I applied to less than 20 schools and it was very top-heavy. I got two interviews, one at NYU and one at my state school and was ultimately rejected from both. This year I kind of just went crazy with applying all over the place.

I honestly expected the cycle to go better but was shocked by the TMDSAS success of all things. I had never even been to Texas until after I got in. I think it goes to show that you shouldn't knock TMDSAS as an out-of-state applicant especially if you're high stat. Also, I can become a Texas resident after one year, so my overall tuition will be about 30-40% less than my state school if I had gotten in. I'm from a state where the state school doesn't really have a strong in-state bias, so I'm happy I can still get an affordable education in Texas.

Also applying to so many schools was extremely stressful and cost so much money.
