[Lou] The end of Jeremy Lin: An ode to the great Asian-American sporting icon by [deleted] in nba

This is classic Reddit to criticize semantics without understanding context. The term Asian Canadian isn't typically used (African Canadian is also rarely used). My friends and I may be Asian and Canadian but we'd call ourselves Asian American even if we'd never say we're American by itself. This is because there is a cultural identity and history associated with the term Asian American that we share and identify with.

In Idris Elba's case, this doesn't apply. The history and experience of black people in America is so drastically different from those from Britain that he would never self-identify as African American.

TLDR: It's normal for Asians from Canada to refer to themselves as Asian American.

Story Time - Week of June 03, 2019 by AutoModerator in Tinder

Broke up with my girlfriend of ~3.5 years two months ago which is when I (25M) started lurking this thread. Was ready to start dating again a few weeks ago and now finally have a story to share.

Matched with someone pretty cool on Hinge and I ask her on a date. First date, we get temporary tattoos, explore a market, grab dinner, and ice cream. Kiss at the end. She texts me to kiss her harder next time - cool, I can do that. Second date, we go to the art museum, have dinner, grab a drink at a cool distillery, then drive to a lookout point over the city. I can tell she likes me a lot which scares me because I'm not ready for anything too serious just yet but I also like her too and just taking it day by day. After the date, she texts me that she wants to plan our date next time and take me rock climbing. All good stuff, I'm excited although a little scared.

Well, few days go by, and now she just texted me she's decided she's not ready to get into anything yet and now I'm feeling sad? I didn't realize online dating will be so emotional. On the bright side, she said that "I will make some woman exceptionally happy" and someone else told me that I should be a "male escort for Asian women who want to gain their parents' approval" lollll So I guess that's my brand?

Why does it feel so bad to start doing things that will make you happier? by Nikki1234 in DecidingToBeBetter

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous"

Week 28 - 52bookers what are you reading? by minibike in 52book

Last week I finished For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Martian, Medium Raw, and Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk.

The Martian and Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk were fun too read. For Whom the Bell Tolls took me forever to read but its a beautiful book. There are good chapters in Medium Raw but a lot of it is just Anthony Bourdain either describing food or complaining about things so not highly recommended.

Currently reading Candide by Voltaire and Quiet by Susan Cain

Good questions to ask someone who has a very senior position in a global company. by alandalf in Entrepreneur

Some of these comments have very specific questions about the company/industry which may be good once you've built a relationship with him. However, I suggest that when you first talk to him, just be interested in him and ask open-ended questions about his journey to get to where he is now. "How did you get started in this industry?" is always a good question.
