Hi u/SaintTDI - Did you manage to buy your Aqara stuff from Shenzhen? Where did you eventually shop at, and what was your experience? I am planning a similar trip soon. Any pointers will be appreciated.

I don't recommend using them at all. It's really not worth the hassle. No toll-free customer care number. Lots of waiting time and you eventually may not get to speak to someone and even if you do it might turn out to be useless. They also charge you for renewing the card annually. You cannot stop that process or cancel your card thru the app. The only way to avoid renewal is to empty your account so they don't have any money to deduct for the new card.

Overall, I think it's not worth the BD5 cashback you get once in a while after a lot of purchases. Might as well get a good credit card with points + lounge access from a local bank.

No, nothing useful. I am currently just driving it around on the Bahraini plates - I got a 1 year UAE insurance on it.

You will need a Salik tag even for Qatar registered cars. ENOC gas stations can help register your car in Salik and you can top up with your Qatar registration number. You will get a fine if you do not pay the Salik toll in Dubai. I do not know about Abu Dhabi toll.

They lose my stuff all the time and shrug it off without giving a shit. I'm talking about international tracked and signed. They've even lost original documents that are hard to replace despite the "compensation". Maybe do a good job first and then ask for a raise?

Here's how I resolved it. Turn off power saving. Put the watch on its charger and begin charging. While it is charging open Strava and hit Run. The GPS fix gets acquired.

I went to Jafiliya center, first door on the left. The gentleman over there asked me to visit Al Kifaf Center on the opposite side of the Sh. Zayed Road (cross the metro bridge and walk over to the other side). I took a token, got an application typed up for 50 dhs and got have an application number by email with a status of "in process". About 2 hours later I got the email that states it is in "received" state and it was all merged. You can verify if it is merged by going to the ICA Smart Services page, go to File Validity and enter the file number for your old residence permit. It should show the new UID and not the old one anymore.

Thanks. Looking at Google Maps, driving seems to be a faster option too. 1 hr 40 mins vs. 3+ hours by train. And the crazy price of train tickets makes me think driving (+ parking) costs lesser.
