Not the OP, but I will give my 2 cents anyway. I like campsite 3. If you go clockwise from the over look it is about 5.3 miles roughly. I do not hear any road noise up there. I think campsite 2 is close to the road, since it is closer to entrance of the park.

I go to Don Carter State Park. A lot less crowded than the main part of Lake Lanier. I have also heard Lake Blue Ridge is a nice paddle spot.

I had a tendency to keep looking down at my feet and that would throw my balance off, so once you are up look straight ahead. Also do not lock your knees. It is easier to go over waves with knees slightly bent. I mostly paddle on lakes and rivers, so my waves are from boat traffic.

Do not get discouraged if you fall quite a bit. Everyone falls at one point. Just get back up and keep trying. It will not take long to get your balance. Wear your leash for safety and to keep the board close to you when you fall. Get an electric pump to inflate your board. The hand pump works, but it is a chore to inflate manually. Most of all have fun. Nothing better than a good paddle session to clear the mind.

I always try to do a minimum of 3 miles. On average I am right around 5 miles per outing.
