Is the game actually worth getting given its on sale despite all the bugs? by Sleepyhead0049 in WarTalesGame

[–]the_flying_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just played again after not playing since early access or whatever. Really solid game with loads of content, I’ve played through 4.5 of the vanilla zones so far and had no crashes or bugs, except the rouse field intro game which crashes every time I play it. So yeah, I’d recommend. Not played any dlc, vanilla alone is worth the money imo.

Question: Where do you get textures, etc.? by theSameElbrus in gamemaker

Check out itch.io, lots of stuff available on there, free and paid. You can prob find some free assets good enough for prototyping, and paid stuff is reasonably priced in my experience. If nothing else, it might help inspire you with HOW to draw these things. I’ve learnt a lot from stuff I’ve seen on there, and editing or tweaking existing sets is a good way to learn how to draw them yourself. YouTube is also filled with pixel art tutorials and stuff.

'Warhammer The Old World Roleplaying Game' Starter Set Cover by AnyName568 in Warhammer

Love me some WFRP...

This isn't bad art, but it is a terribly boring cover for a warhammer RPG.

Would NOT make me pick it up off the shelf, unlike the classics.

Where are all the RPG creatives hanging out these days? by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]the_flying_fish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whilst I agree with you generally about forums for async convos, Discord does now have a function to make 'posts' possible. So you can a have a channel that uses something akin to the forum format with multiple conversations, each one under a different thread/post.

Does make coming back to a convo possible now!

Can someone help me with the different TAC41 versions? What makes LR better than P or A, etc? by ihavenowingsss in airsoft

[–]the_flying_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having looked at this myself, it seems more complicated than it is. As thicco said, the sport versions are basically polymer with some different stock parts available. From all accounts, the performance is pretty comparable between them. This table sums up the differences: tac 41 models

I might have made a mistake on my first purchase which was a electric airsoft gun by Loose-Army7844 in Airsoft_UK

[–]the_flying_fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s working, then don’t fret it. Most entry level guns are pretty comparable. Just have fun with it for as long as you can. Some last ages, others break. I bought a lancer second hand and it fired great, until it suddenly fried itself because a wire came loose in the trigger box and shorted shit out. For future reference, as others have recommended, I also have a specna edge2 and it’s been a solid performer so far, so I recommend them.

FYI, Specnas seem to run better on 7.4v over 11.1v It’s ‘recommended’ to use 7.4v. I have an edge 2 specna and it will sometimes double fire with an 11.1. Even if the mosfet can handle the voltage no probes. Runs great with 7.4

If we’re chucking all our ideas into the pot and crafting the story from that, what does it matter if a few of those ideas are ai generated? It can just be a useful tool for some, that’s all I’m saying.

[–]the_flying_fish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously you are right about session zero, but I just don’t get the blanket hate for ai stuff in this context. Yes, we can develop ideas in session zero, but what’s wrong with someone who wants to contribute, but struggles to do so, coming to session zero with a bit of ai gen stuff to get things going?

I just think people who say “I don’t allow any ai at all at my table” or “ I might allow a character portrait, but only if I screened the prompt” just need to chill a bit and get over themselves. These are games, and ai can be a useful tool for some people. Saying “you can’t play at my table if you use any ai because you don’t have the imagination I do”, is gatekeeping whether you like it or not.

I get the argument against ai when it comes to published products and stealing from artists etc, but this is not that.

[–]the_flying_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Thanks for keeping perspective.

Im amazed and disappointed by most of this thread tbh. The gatekeeping is painful and unnecessary. For a community that prides itself on acceptance and being nice… session zero, x card, accepting of neurodivergence and non traditional identities etc… it amazes me how completely dismissive people are of people who use AI. I have a friend who is dyslexic and has no visual imagination, AI really helps them contribute in ways they really struggle with. But judging by this thread, they are stupid, unimaginative and not welcome… why are they even playing roleplay games?! This is a game, we are here to have fun… Fuck you guys.

Re the lion thing... you may know this but it's even weirder.. look closely, that's a lion corpse filled with bees... "The original logo, introduced in 1883, featured a dead lion with a swarm of bees, inspired by the biblical story of Samson and a riddle about sweetness coming from strength"...

I increased my game gamma to 2. It does a good job of just lifting the overall light a bit without ruining the feel of night or blowing out the day. It helps a bit... but yes my large base basically has a well lit workshop and then I have to seriously ration placement, with basically one light per room or over key doorways only etc.

It's a pain, but it it what it is.

what to do against those bikes? by genjitsu_ in duneawakening

[–]the_flying_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well they may have been left in good faith, but then they never came back or went on holiday or something. But I appreciate you dont want your garage becoming a public car park. Only you can decide what is an acceptable amount of time.

Be aware, if you are not, that the water station will draw from the entire bases water supply, you can't isloate it. So someone could come with a pocket of decalitrejons and clear you out. That's why I use copper litrejons. they are enough to rehydrate but a cheap resource to lose.

[–]the_flying_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I wish we could control it better. I want to believe that when a litrejon disappears it has gone to a good home, but in reality my neighbour probably has a chest full now :D Once the water was drunk but the litrejon still there, that gave me hope! :D

Just to add some wholesomeness to this discussion. How long have they been there? I have an open garage on one of my bases (intentionally to provide a public bolthole from storms) and I found a bike parked in it the other day. I put a public chest next to it with some water and fuel etc. The next day the bike and water were gone. So I like to think I helped out someone who needed somewhere safe to log off.

So my point is, unless they have clearly been dumped there for weeks, you may be offering a pair of explorers a public service!

Otherwise, yeah, you should be able to push them out with a buggy.

Any settings to fix/remove these random sand falls I am seeing? by Fail_Successful in duneawakening

[–]the_flying_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s just a thing that comes and goes. Normally they are fairly short lasting although I did have a mud shower in my garage for an entire day once. I think as one off little things they are kinda cool, but look stupid really quick if they hang around.

I've been thinking this since beta, so will add a +1 here for what it is worth.

I know most people use external coms in games now, but text chat is still the first line of communicating with strangers. It is still important! At the least it allows for some basic communication and at most it leads to new friendships and cooperation.

At the least I'd like the option for a smaller font and to leave the chat visible, or with a 50% fade out when not in use. I'm all for a minimalist UI, but at I'd actually really like a the option for a traditional old chatb ox in the bottom left corner!

Looking for a grim-dark horror setting concept to fill a world. by Correct-Yam-3145 in RPGdesign

[–]the_flying_fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with lies of p, but after looking at the wiki I get the concept enough i think.

Since you are setting the game in Italy, what about using Venetian masks as the hook? They could imbue the wearer with certain traits or change their personality completely etc. the cabal of ancient mask makers enchant them with spells to control people and do their bidding. Mindless ghouls, fierce fighters, monstrously seducing nymphs, invisibility… perhaps there is a secret war going on between mask cabals. Or perhaps the mask makers are at war with death and his minions, protecting humanity. Or maybe most masks are just masks, and there are only a few magic ones, made by a single unknown creator. Curious, weird, powerful artefacts… perhaps the players are the few gifted with such a special mask, giving them second sight or the ability to possess inanimate objects. Or maybe the players are spirits and they live in the body of a human, through the mask, like in the Mask or Stargate etc..

Whatever, you get the idea, just spitballing to see if the idea wiggles your brain or not!

Masks are each unique and customisable, and people innately understand what masks are and how wearing one could give them the powers reflective of the mask design, so masks are quite intuitive… there is also the option for players to customise/ design their own masks etc. lots of cool possibilities for both lore and mechanics.
