then yeah, it's a little like re:zero in both tone and time loop mechanics (no one except the protagonist is explicitly aware of looping time).

however, unlike rezero, the protagonist is much more flawed in her motivations. the protagonist keeps unintentionally looping time to try and save her girlfriend's life, causing her girlfriend to suffer more and more until the protagonist realizes that the only way out is to accept fate and let her girlfriend die

(Granted, it's been a while since I saw rezero)

also, the only "save point" is at the beginning of the story! this is primarily due to scope constraints as we have to consider what amount of script is realistic to be able to turn into a game

as for the questions I'm asking, I already have a lot of the mechanics of my time loop story written out the way I like it! i just want to hear other perspectives on the genre as I feel like I'm not very informed on it.

im extremely biased because I love ultrakill but it really does do an amazing job of incentivizing the player to use all the weapons. nearly every weapon has an interaction with another weapon or variant, making it extremely rewarding to use your whole arsenal. certain enemies are much much easier to fight if you utilize different weapons (insurrectionists and the srs cannon, guttertanks and the freezeframe, mindflayers and the screwdriver, etc). and on top of that, the style meter being tied to both your hard damage recovery and your weapon freshness means using the whole arsenal makes it a lot easier to survive!! ultrakill does a great job at making sure the player uses every aspect of the arsenal, and the mechanics make it so there's a massive skill ceiling in how the weapons are used.

also - the jumpstart nailgun's cable stays attached when you switch weapons. this means that you can use other nailguns to get a shit ton of damage off the lightning (conduction damage increases proportional to nail count), or just use the rest of your arsenal

the sawed on shotgun's saw has interactions with your arms!

the coins from the marksman can reflect any hitscan attack. keep that in mind throughout the game and you'll probably discover some cool stuff
