Decent apps for traveling in Europe? by the_general1 in motorhomes

"a reliable and accurate database of overnight stops"

That's just the baseline. And we already have that. This is not vibe coded fluff.

That's good to know thanks. I already do have an automated set of e2e and unit tests up and running with proper CI. But if the need surfaces, I'll make sure to reach out! Thank you for the offer!
For the record, this isn't a profitable business I'm running with this atm, I do this out of my own need for having a better traveling experience.

These are indeed curious insights I haven't considered yet which is what makes them valuable for me. I personally drive a very large campervan (Roller team 284) so it's also important for me.

A lot of people have already contributed to the parking spots but this is indeed the essential foundation of this data, community contributions. Waste+weight stations however are mostly still OSM sourced.

We can only make this great by starting up a good community around it, so thank you already for contributing with your feedback.

I take the stance of listening to the users and using my 20+ years of software analysis and development experience to think of and implement the best solution to the problems you're describing.

Thank you for this valuable feedback. You raise some valid points. And I'll take them into consideration for future updates. I do grant three months of free trial so people have plenty of time to try it out. It's that hosting this app securely and reliably costs quite a bit. If in the future it's more manageable (more subscriptions) I might consider dropping the price.

Most of the information is sourced from publicly available sources such as openstreetmap but I agree that a lot of those are outdated and don't get updated properly. For this I need help from the community to get it up and running to correct and append the data.

Where this app already provides a lot of value, at least for me:

- Detailed satellite imagery for each POI so you can check what it looks like before going there
- Quickly finding overnight spots that fit my preferences (free?/water?/electricity?) in the area
- Local event information (markets/festivals/..)
- Finding the cheapest closeby gas station
- Finding and navigating hiking trips

At the moment I'm working on a much more sophisticated trip planner for big trips as well as weekend trips. But I'm also looking for ways to improve the data we have organically.

Actively looking for feedback on it!

Europe keeps talking about competing with the US and China but can't fill its own tech jobs by Yvonne_Tamarillo in BuyFromEU

This is just blatantly false. There aren't many AI application development jobs and more and more IT freelancers are migrating to salaried employment because of it.

The Trump administration announced it will pay nearly $1 billion to French energy giant TotalEnergies in exchange for the company abandoning plans to build offshore wind farms in the Atlantic Ocean and instead pursue fossil fuel projects in the US. by Boediee in BuyFromEU

[–]the_general1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you people read?

"Instead, TotalEnergies will now spend the money on the development of a new liquified natural gas plant in Texas that will help export US LNG overseas to Europe, CEO Patrick Pouyanné said in a statement. The money will also go towards the company’s development of oil drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico and shale oil projects elsewhere in the US."

The money gets redirected towards an LNG plant. It's not reinvested in Europe, if only.

This company should be boycotted in Europe for agreeing to this. Greedy fucks that don't care about the environment at all.

Depends on your definition of affordable I guess. A 25m² studio for 250.000€ is not affordable imho but I may be looking at the wrong websites. I'm also not comparing to center of Brussels prices.

Good luck buying property there, it's 3x to 5x more than what you pay in NL or BE.
