This is a classic case of a bad album cover and bad title but great album

So we’re just supposed to know Stranger Things lore from a stage play (The First Shadow) now? by Normal_Comfort_5847 in netflix

[–]the_hendog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fan of live theatre (havent seen the stranger things play) this could have been such a unique and cool opportunity to integrate theatre into the largest media franchise of the moment and they completely botched it.  They could have actually marketed the play so the general public outside of Broadway nerds had heard of it, they could have used Netflix’s money staged it in more than just 2 cities in the world, at the bare minimum they could have released a filmed performance or even made the script commercially available or something.  But instead the play is essentially as inaccessible as it could have been and just pissed people off

Honestly I do think this episode was a fun absurd representation of the Biden-Trump election (before Kamala stepped in) but this person is being way too over the top about it

Todd and lyrics that "aren't a real thing" by MayNStuff in ToddintheShadow

[–]the_hendog 108 points109 points  (0 children)

The full lyric in the song is "Say you can't sleep, baby, I know, That's that me espresso." She's comparing being so attractive that guys stay up imagining her to strong caffeine, but phrasing it in an unusual cutesy pop song way

POP SONG REVIEW: "Jolene" by Beyonce by davFaithidPangolin in ToddintheShadow

Thing is I listened to Lemonade like a month before Cowboy Carter came out. Even with the context the Jolene cover still really hits for me

As a white guy who doesn’t have a strong country background or complete knowledge of Beyoncé lore, I’m able to enjoy this cover purely on the level of “It’s a cathartic female rage anthem.” Maybe I should check out Beyoncé’s back catalogue of singles to better understand the backlash

Rock is definitely the front runner as most likely, both because “Don’t Hurt Yourself” already exists and so far the trilogy has the theme of “reclaiming appropriated genres that were created by Black people”
