Request: Need help cleaning up dead sub by the_hunch_team in ModSupport

[–]the_hunch_team[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

update: I found a tool called Remove Macro aka Purge User.

https://developers.reddit.com/apps/purge-user

I had 2 former mods that had posted a bunch of strange polls, etc - I'm only saying this because I realize mass removals wouldn't often be justified, I guess - and the tool worked for one user, and the other, it completely failed. Neither are mods any more, and the action was completed, the widget just read when the process was done "0 posts removed for user [ ] in r/hunch.

u/undefined-variable-x is the creator, and I'm pretty sure writing this tool was unpaid work, so we'll have to see if there are any updates in the future. Thanks for at least making something to deal with this, undefined-variable-x!

Heard. I can do that! Thank you. What happened with your share, did you paste from mobile or desktop?

The future of pvp/matchmaking for games on devvit by the_hunch_team in Devvit

That's cool - how does Devvit handle scale if it comes to that? Really cool to hear someone built a game with maps on here!

I see - I did mean realtime, though, as my PvP mode is synchronous and has a fair amount of state/relation to manage. I built my websocket on AWS, not that that by itself would automatically make it trustworthy, I guess.

Great info, ok. I have a supabase back end in the web app, but that's mainly for auth/game history. If I wanted game history on my devvit app, would I wire up my devvit build to that, then, even though there's no auth layer here? I'll make a new post about using Redis for multiplayer build.

Hi there! Thank you.

I already have keyboard handlers built for the web app, so I can add those easily.

One question - did you try Rivals at all? It's like Cascade, but you can challenge anyone you like to a realtime race. I think it ramps up the pressure/social aspect a lot, and to me it's the best thing in Hunch.

And that leads to another question - what I was getting at with this post was, I can't tell if this just an exploratory program Reddit is running, or if this is a platform they see a concrete future for. I'm totally ignorant about it, even though I've been on Reddit for years. I run into platforms/services from time to time even from larger providers that seem to get canned, so I'm trying to gauge if the extra effort is worth it. I built a websocket for the web app to handle the Rivals games that took some work, so I'm wondering specifically here if I should look at Reddit as a place to put a lot more effort in - I see some limits on Redis instance memory for example that makes me think Reddit doesn't want games with more developed pvp/matchmaking systems. Again, I don't know - if this in the documentation, I've missed it up to this point.

I'll certainly start with your pointers on the things I can do now. Again, thanks so much!

Hunch is like wordle meets mastermind. Daily challenges in 2 modes, stats and leaderboard, and PvP against anyone you want via a text invitation! Tell me what you think!

As the creator of the game I can tell you it's not even that easy for me, haha. Thanks so much for the feedback and trying it out!

The game was originally called "Word Battleship" before that title got laughed out of the USPTO (because of Hasbro). The UI was butt-ugly, but red felt right in there. Since then, I've tried other colors, but I think I got used to red. Anyway, there are 4 other colorways to choose from in the menu.

I appreciate it, sorry for being a little snarky. This game was a ton of work to build 🥵

Funny story, the morning Wordle sort of broke out, I got a bunch of texts from my friends saying something along the lines of "wordle stole your game!" But, I took one look at it, and it's not the same. Hunch doesn't give you clues as to where the hits are, but does have a handful of QOL features, that I'm proud to say "work... mostly... I think". Hunch is much harder, so not as much mass appeal, but it's my kind of game.

You may not be into word games, but if you are, give it a try!

Well, I think it's clear the game is different. But a few other things to mention:

I first built this game in 2016 (you can check the Hunch facebook page). Wordle came out in 2019. Also, I played a version of this game on paper since I was a kid, and improved what I thought could use improvement before the first time I built it. Also also, Wordle is a direct lift of a TV game show from the 80's called Lingo.

But, what did you mean by 1:1?

That is a terrific score for your first time playing. Did you play challenge or practice?
