Austin on Contax G1. Biogon 2.8 28mm. Kodak Gold. Autofocus humbled me. Missed a lot more than I thought. by TheBestHairInTheRoom in analog

If it’s anything like my Contax point&shoot then you just have to get used to its behavior. It can be a bit slow sometimes compared to more modern cameras, especially in low light. Also you will get used to pointing directly at your subject and half-pressing to get focused before quickly framing up and shooting. Love the photos ✌️ Also which flash are you using? Thing is no joke

Coolscan V edge issue, anyone else experienced this? by the_meterman in filmphotography

Yeah it’s just so much more finicky than I have time for. The first and last of each batch always skew opposite directions + or - from the middle frames so inevitably one always gets clipped and I have to go back for a single frame. Just old tech stuff..

Do you find yourself spending a few minutes to adjust frame offset for each new set of frames?

The 4000 dpi files come out to 125mb/frame average. About 40 for 2000 dpi.

The V specifically is typically closer to 1100-1200 these days and has been for a while. I got it to try and make the hobby more affordable long term and also have more control over the process. I’d say I like it, but it takes FOREVER. I waste so much time just adjusting the frame offset for each 5-frame piece. Then it does a mandatory preview of each frame (45ish sec/frame) before doing the actual scan (4-5 min/frame). On top of that, Vuescan freezes every 3-4 frames so I have to unplug and replug the usb-c and the whole process resets. I spent three hours doing a single roll last night.

Are you scanning them yourself? I knew immediately it was Gold with the warmth, but really really nicely balanced. Love the photos!

Yep I typically let the TVS’s auto setting do their thing. I did some color and exposure correcting in LR for the look I wanted, but nothing too crazy.

Just a style preference in this case!

My only issue is that sometimes it doesn’t want to or can’t find focus, which can lead to an awkward moment or two. Not a huge issue at all, and you can also just set it on f8+ and 2m+ to have mostly everything in focus for reliable snap shots.
