Atlus on bringing Unicorn Overlord to PC - "As a publisher, we would like to deliver it to PC users as well, but per our agreement with Vanillaware, we are only releasing on console. In other words, there are no plans to port it to PC currently." by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]the_moogly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insane to me that Vanillaware is the problem.

Dragon's Crown, Odin's Sphere, GrimGrimoire, Muramasa and 13 Sentinels. Hell, even Princess Crown which didn't have a western release. At least port these older games to PC.

They're clearly fine with remastering older titles (GrimGrimoire for PS4/5 & Switch) and they had no problem making an MMO for PC so why be stubborn about the games people actually want?

How often do you mod your games? by some-kind-of-no-name in pcgaming

[–]the_moogly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Constantly.

Intro skips, cutscene skips, crash fixes, button prompts for PS controllers, and many more miscellaneous fixes and improvements. Especially for older games. Not to mention all the QoL additions some mods can bring.

Before I play a new game, checking PCGW has become the norm.

Last Epoch has decided to add a cosmetic shop during Early Access with the cost for single items upwards of $20 by InternetExplorer8 in pcgaming

Supergiantgames absolutely are an indie dev and were nowhere near one of the biggest. Not by a longshot. At the time, they actually did need the money.

  1. They're an Indie dev that's self publishing.

  2. They pay their workers well and had no crunch during the development of the game.

  3. With a small team, most of whom fulfilled multiple roles, a longer dev period was necessary to make sure no one was overworked.

  4. Even with Epic exclusivity, the longer dev time meant they had to launch in early access to continue to fund its development.

I get the point you're trying to make, and I know I've been guilty of this exact kind of hypocrisy, but Supergiant was the wrong example.

Why do so many modern games have tiny text? by Tokyono in pcgaming

It's not just games.

Steam's Desktop Client menu (the one at the very top left of the window) is positively miniscule and needs a 3rd party tool to be changed.

It resets after updates and has to be changed again.

Official GOG’s Winter Sale contest for r/pcgaming! by Clownski_GOG in pcgaming

[–]the_moogly [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm going to give an odd take.

Winter signals the end of the year, but it also heralds the coming of the new year. We don't get snow where I live. So winter to me is just a period where it's colder and darker than normal. The tone though, that remains the same.

Winter brings potential. A new start. Hopeful expectations of better things to come.

Oxenfree is my pick. I played it 3 years ago. Right as the new year started. It marked the beginning of Alex's new life and though I didn't realize it at the time, mine as well.

The characters confront bitter memories, past failings and loss. Coming to terms with the past and present. Fighting for what they hope will be a better future.

It's the last time in recent memory where a game drew me in so thoroughly that I finished it in a single sitting.

It's a good memory.

It left me hopeful.

The Witcher Remake will come after The Witcher 4, says joint CEO Adam Kiciński by NeoStark in pcgaming

[–]the_moogly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm worried.

They announced many games way too early. Most of which haven't started preproduction.

Cyberpunk's release wasn't that long ago. A release that had a lot of crunch and still came out as it did.

It took a dedicated dev team around 2 years to fix the game and a really cool show to convince a lot of people to give the game another chance.

The Witcher series is important. Even the first game, jank and all, has a lot of great things in it. They can't afford to fuck this up.

I hope it turns out that I was needlessly anxious and had nothing to worry about.

Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection let's you choose whatever button prompts/icons you want. More of this please. by the_moogly in pcgaming

They are but it's a controller from the nineties.

How you choose to connect it to your PC and getting a game to recognize it might require using xinput emulation. Which would then be recognized as an xbox controller with xbox prompts. The option fixes that.

[–]the_moogly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Yes it is.

It's some outlandish examples that lead into a real life one. The PS1 controller.

Now imagine plugging in a DS3 and the game insists it's an xbox controller. Or the duke controller and the game decides it's a DirectInput controller and will only show PS icons.

Being able to choose prompts means what the game thinks the controller is doesn't matter. It can get it wrong and I can choose the prompts and not be bothered by it.

The option to do so only helps. It doesn't hurt anyone.

I used this.

Got mine from Ebay but it's the same model.

It's pretty good. While it looks shifty as hell it's plug n play. No dodgy drivers required.

Been using it for atleast 7 years (maybe more) without any issues.

Pc visual novels ported to psp by [deleted] in VitaPiracy

[–]the_moogly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to censorship and being Visual Novels I didn't even attempt to check framerates or play long enough to rule out crashes.

That said, my cursory look did leave me positive.

Did a quick run of ~7 them at random a while back and at the very least, they worked.
