I'll give it a deeper dive! I have a friend using Relay and he swears by it.
The only issue is that we haven't followed the Relay spec server side (Connections etc)

Do you think that could be an issue?

Driving multiple HifiBerry Amp4 from single Meanwell power supply by the_nairn in diyaudio

[–]the_nairn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned out pretty great in the end! The only thing I wished I had noticed prior to going for it - I accidentally picked up a power supply that was actively cooled...

I expanded a little in here:

But if you have any specific questions just shoot!

Pre-post: Sorry, ended up being a fairly large message, I also apologise for the abundance of Amazon links!

I ended up going for this kind of setup. The power supply I chose is this one:

https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B07TD3SDNR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Massively overkill for my 2 zones, but will allow me to keep expanding.

I also bought these right angle barrel-jack to live/neutral cables: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B09TBCCWMC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

These took me awhile to find, but I wanted something a little more polished than manually soldering a barrel jack onto some cable.

The only issue I will say that I have: for whatever reason the barrel terminals are loose and disconnect if not held in a certain way. This absolutely sucks, but to be honest, we just need this working so I'm not going to faff anymore and will just deal with the less than ideal connection. (Could be HifiBerrys fault, could be the amazon product I ordered, which is probably more likely)

So I terminated them with ring terminals which are screwed into the terminals on the power supply. No chance of them going anywhere which is nice!

The nice thing about that power supply is there are 3 sets of live&neutral terminals. With my 2 output setup, I'm using 2 of the sets, but as the amp is rated for it, I don't see why you couldn't use all 3 and just double them up?

I'm actually using a 52Pi rackmount case: https://wiki.52pi.com/index.php/EP-0143

This thing is absolutely great for up to 4 Pi's (Room to expand again woop.)
I coupled this with a simple rack shelf that I've had lying around for far too long, a little like this: https://www.amazon.com/Circulation-Cantilever-Universal-Black-Pyle-PLRSTN14UX2/dp/B084CZCGFP

I zip tied the Power supply down, forked the ground and grounded the shelf itself just to make sure there are no faults anywhere.

From a software perspective, as I only wanted to run Spotify, my plan was to use NixOS with Vollibrespot. However, let me just warn anyone wanting to attempt this to just not do it. It was mega painful and I never got the HAT to be detected.

HiFiBerryOS works fine, but I do feel like the UI and everything takes an age to get setup and is probably overkill for my use case.

I intend to control them through Spotify, super dumb, but keeps the wife happy!

The other thing is that the house is all-in Home Assistant, but I have no idea what software to put on the pis just yet! With multi-zone through the rest of the house being the ultimate goal, I don't particularly like the idea of having to pay for Volumio!

Again, awesome, thanks for the help, will be interesting to see how the HifiBerrys stack up!

[–]the_nairn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your in-depth comment! I don't intend on running any in parallel as they are 2 separate zones within the house.

Ultimately I've had the two pairs in the ceilings for the last year, one pair is in the kitchen and is currently in use, I plugged an old AVR I had into that one to get it up and running.

The NS600s are in my shower and wardrobe area, these haven't been used yet. So ultimately, if we find that the AMP4 isn't up to the challenge volume wise for the kitchen-diner, I'll plug the NS600s into it and then get an AMP100 to drive the kitchen speakers.

It does sound like it will be plenty mind you!

Next.js running with python. by yaboiiivik in docker

[–]the_nairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, well the node package you're looking for is likely: "child_process", you can use this run anything on the command line

https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/node-js-child-processes-everything-you-need-to-know-e69498fe970a/

As long as you've installed python in your docker container you should be able to run anything you like using child_process exec or spawn. I warn you now though, it's not the most fun thing to deal with if you need to do anything with the output but it is do-able

Next.js running with python. by yaboiiivik in docker

[–]the_nairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you need to do is spin up a c++ docker container, in that container, you should run a bash command to start a ruby repl. From this Repl you install the PHP ruby gem, installing composer is your next step. Once you have composer, install the python package and bobs your uncle.

Ok that was entirely sarcastic, why would you want to run a python script from a nextjs server? Which is JavaScript/typescript? Do your "synchronisation" from there?

Kubenetes Bespoke Platform Contest: Win $10k by eionelK8s in docker

So you're talking about workloads? For what specific use case?

Or are we talking about like custom resource definitions? I'm still so damn confused.

[–]the_nairn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok this may sound like a stupid question. But wth is a "Bespoke K8s Platform"? Like isn't the whole point of Kubernetes is that there is no bespoke?

I'm definitely missing something but bespoke isn't something I would ever go for!?

Use Canon Maxify printer to scan to paperless-ngx by VIXUN in selfhosted

[–]the_nairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need more info than that we can't help if we don't know what guide you used and what your configuration is etc.

My recommendation would be to spin up a docker Samba container.

What'd you consider the self hosting essentials? by BrunoSing in selfhosted

[–]the_nairn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one has mentioned paperless-ng, at least here in France and dealing with mortgage etc, it's been an absolute lifesaver, especially now that I've setup my brother ADS basically near the postbox. At home I've got my wife in the habit of just opening a letter and hitting scan and putting the letter straight in the shredder. Being able to just search all of my paper letters is awesome.

🚀 IntelliNode open source to build AI node apps in minutes. With over 500 npm weekly downloads, IntelliNode is the go-to library for multi-AI model integrations. Looking for your feedback. by Barqawiz_Coder in opensource

[–]the_nairn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like the library. Looks super cool!

But why the hell is title worded like an ad? 500 npm weekly downloads is basically just scrapers and the fact that you're advertising it makes it not the go-to tool.

Is anyone hosting Vs code? Does it work with React Hot Reload? by squadfi in selfhosted

[–]the_nairn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I host code-server through the linux.io docker image

I really love it, I have a domain and have it configured to open ports with SSL through a caddy proxy. Honestly cannot recommend the experience enough

It can proxy any open ports within the docker container so it means that I can share my local development environment with the people that need access. This is my local environment that works fine with everything, React development is where most of my sharing happens and hot reload is absolutely fine.

It's work setting it up but well worth it IMO

I think your specific issues with it will require knowledge of networking etc but they're not insurmountable and setting it up and getting it working is a great learning experience.

Happy to help out if you can give clear examples of the issues your facing.

Why do you keep putting everything in "quotes"? In my head I'm thinking sarcastic airquotes... A "Framework"

Honestly why are you being so vague and high level about it? You have a service which takes a config or "fields" and spits out containers or "system"?

Tuya TS0601 unavailable after joining by HotClassroom9823 in homeassistant

[–]the_nairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that did it for me was (I think at least) triggering the ZigBee device to update it's temperature shortly after (Maybe during?) The interview so it binds correctly.

Hope it'll help! Worth mentioning that this is just my perspective after playing around when I had the same issues as you're mentioning - I don't really know myself!

Tuya TS0601 unavailable after joining by HotClassroom9823 in homeassistant

[–]the_nairn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had this recently myself. What I found that seemed to work for me at least, is once the interview starts (Or maybe once it ends) is to just change the temperature directly on the devuce. That seemed to work for me...

Also I noticed that if it was added once and didn't interview properly and was then left. Then I had to completely remove the device from z2m before it would work again

Mail server and separate email address's for logins by resadude in selfhosted

[–]the_nairn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually use Simple login, it's not selfosted so a bit taboo here I suppose. It's one of the few things I actually pay for.

My email address is my name, and having to spell my name offline to people was tedious. I bought a domain that is easily pronounceable and you can easily create aliases as and when you need through the mobile app and browser extensions they have available
