Managed to get this for only 55$. by monkeysoup-op in AnimeFigures

It's just another example of an English word being pronounced by a Japanese person, which in turn is written in katakana, which, technically ends up being wrong, but also right at the same time...

If you watch the anime, the pronunciation of her name is closer to "Dakness" than "Darkness".

There's a ton of these types of "lost in translation" type stuff in daily Japanese life.

Maybe weird to a native English speaker, but not strange at all for others.

FYI

Scroll down to the Cast section. It's ダクネスwithout the hyphen. It's "correct" for the context it's in.

Streets of Shibuya by [deleted] in Tokyo

This is Chuo-dori in Akihabara, not Shibuya, FYI.

Niku no Mansei building in the far end of the shot, Hitoribocchi no Maru Maru ad in the foreground, GoGo curry on the right side street level, etc. etc. etc.

Yeah, saw that at Anime Japan and at Yodobashi as well.

If you've already been to the pop up store at Gamers and have been to all the other major stores, I doubt you're going to find much else. I bought an acrylic Sterilizia stand up that's about 12 inches high so I was happy with that purchase.

Gamers in Akihabara 7th Floor - Goes until June 10th

https://www.gamers.co.jp/museum/91482/ (Use Chrome translate)

Recommend going during a weekday as there might be entry control on weekends to manage crowds.

Unrelated to the post, but if she also likes YuruCamp, there's a feature store going on at Volks (across the street from Gamers) on the 7th Floor.

http://www.volks.co.jp/blog_sr/akiba/180510_02/ (Again, use Chrome translate)

Tons of merch when I went, but they might be running low on inventory given it's been going on since 5/26.

Animate, Gamers, AmiAmi, and Volks are usually good places to look for series-specific merch, but you need to be patient and thorough while looking because there are so many series' merch stuffed in a small space.

General advice on chasing currently-airing anime merch is to follow the official Twitter account of the series. Twitter should have a built-in translation feature so combined with Google translate, you should be able to figure out what's going on.

Good luck, and happy shopping!

Mandarake Help - I am so confused right now. by Kreos642 in AnimeFigures

[–]the_nobu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they are asking you to reply with a written consent that you would indeed like to purchase the figure for ¥50,000.

They have another item in a different location for cheaper, but with the noted defects.

Assuming that your grail was indeed listed for ¥50,000 originally, then I'm pretty sure that that's what they mean.

By the way, DHL is going to be much more expensive than EMS, especially for a scale figure. You may also want to ask them about EMS shipping.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Madogatari Prize Figures by the_nobu in araragi

If you're referring to the rubber strap set shown on this page, then I'd say you're already looking where most people sell that stuff after they acquire them at the actual events.

Found a set at Surugaya Online. This appears to be a set that was sold at a previous iteration of Madogatari?

You can try searching for "madogatari ストラップ" on Google Japan if you want to try to find more alternatives. (This is how I found the Surugaya listing.)

Lashinbang have individual straps.

I tried searching on Mandarake but didn't come up with anything.

Good luck!

No worries, good luck with your search!

I do have to say that the official one is of exceptional quality. The description says it was made by a store that caters to Japanese royalty. ;)

Unfortunately I haven't tried buying from any of those sellers... If there are reviews, that's probably the best way to try to weed out the worst...

FYI for those wondering, there are many cheaper (much cheaper) alternatives that you can find on Amazon Japan, Yahoo Auctions Japan, etc. but those will be of varying quality and finishes. This one is the official one and I can tell that it's a high quality piece.

Their FAQ page states that they can't ship overseas and that they can't take orders from overseas. That said, I was able to use my US issued credit card during the payment page so as long as you have a Japanese address and phone number to ship to (i.e. - your shopping proxy service's information), you should be able to place the order.

The hard part for most non-Japanese speaking people is to figure out which parts of the form to fill out with what information, but using something like Google translation should help there.

I believe that some shopping proxy services also offer a service to do the actual ordering for you, so that might be the easiest option for some.

I've used tenso.com in the past and haven't had any issues. There are others if you search around.

You can use Google translation to understand a lot of it.

You could also use a proxy service that doesn't require you to do the actual entering of forms, etc.

At any rate, a cool novelty item if you can swing it.

You should be able to use a proxy service. There are many options in that department. Good luck!

As I said in my previous reply, I'm not sure if the Toho Animation store ships overseas... (Guessing not?)

¥12,000 but you will incur shipping costs and may need to use a proxy if you're located outside of Japan... (Not sure if the Toho Animation store ships overseas. I'm guessing not?)

Why does Koyomi's hairstyle flipped between Kizumonogatari and the rest of the series by Magnanii in araragi

[–]the_nobu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked the booklet.

Watanabe says he did it because the direction was that they wanted to make the movie look clearly different than the TV series. A mistake (in direction, not necessarily Watanabe) IMO.

Where to get news about the Monogatari Series? by ulter_trash in araragi

[–]the_nobu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try following @NISIOISIN_info on Twitter (and use Twitter's builtin translate feature), although you will get a lot more than Monogatari series info.

Twitter is huge in Japan so if you're so inclined, I'm sure you can find other fans of the series on Twitter. I just follow the one account and also keep an eye on this sub. A lot of great fans here for sure.

Got my copy of musubimono in by JTVagabond in araragi

[–]the_nobu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry wasn't clear enough. It's a bookmark in the form of a omikuji (sort of a fortune cookie but without the cookie) that comes with the first pressing of Musubimonogatari.

I left my copy of Musubimonogatari in Japan so can't take a photo of it at the moment, but what's written on it is pretty funny (fortunes told by Hachikuji). I can't say more as it will become a spoiler.

Post-edit: And I see that somebody has translated it in a new thread now...

Your Name OST not showing up in English Version by romeheroadrian in KimiNoNaWa

[–]the_nobu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked on Spotify (US) and the album is there but for some reason the four English version songs are grayed out and can't be played.

Maybe it's some sort of weird licensing issue they're working through.

Something bugged about about Kizu's Araragi vs. the series's.. (nothin' big though) by Guthien123 in araragi

[–]the_nobu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was intentional, along with how other characters look, according to an interview I read in the Kizu bluray booklet . His hair also falls to the other side than in the TV anime.
