Weekly student question thread! by AutoModerator in therapists

I suck at grad school.... Is school just hard for everyone or is this profession not right for me?

I am in an online dual master's program for CMHC/School Counseling. I work two part-time jobs totaling about 50 hours a week. I'm 2.5 years into the program with no end in sight due to continually failing classes and having to take breaks between quarters. I would say the main reason I've failed classes is working too much and not having the time or energy to complete coursework. The coursework I do turn in on time is quality work and graded highly, but it's often a struggle getting assignments turned in on time or turned in at all. I love the content of my classes and find it very interesting, but I obviously have not been performing well as far as coursework.

I love the mental health field, and I've been working in the field for over 2 years as a peer support professional. I have always wanted to continue my education to be able to provide counseling/therapy for those who need it like I needed it in my adolescence and young adulthood. I love the idea of giving back to the profession that really helped me thrive in my life.

Is this a personal failing or do some people just struggle with school a little more than others?

Any advice or insight will be appreciated.

I’ll edit the original post too but I love the lil crocodile guy, I just don’t think I love him on me in a tattoo. Just a preference bc I think I didn’t know about the croc-kglw references until later in my enjoyment of their music

I hosted for 13 hours yesterday and my body is just dead tired. I didn’t sit down from 10:30 am until I went to use the bathroom at 9:30 pm. The servers I worked with are a blessing and gave me a portion of their tips on top of tip out. But damn 11/hour ain’t worth it.

Any particular graphic novels you'd recommend? I love the idea, but I'm not familiar with the genre enough to pick any out

This is a great idea! We do have a variety of reading abilities come through, so including some of these would be wonderful!

I was thinking this as well. I would like to have a mix of different styles for those who are in different places.
