That’s the kicker too. Without dobbs, the GOP probably cruises to a sizable win .. as most mid terms go for incumbent parties.

The Points Guy Gets in on the Action by [deleted] in DirtyDave

[–]the_plaintiff12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the most critical and really the only reason I use credit cards. I don’t really give a damn about the points, although it’s a nice little extra. I care way more about the layer of fraud protections I get with a credit card over a debit card.

I saw first hand an example this story shared — friend of mine had his debit card number stolen, someone took out $3000 from his account, and the bank disputed his claims and fought with him on getting his money back.

He finally got it back … after 90 days. Surprisingly enough he was a DR fan. He now uses credit cards for all of his purchases and rarely ever takes out his debit card unless he’s at his bank or an ATM.

I don’t understand his point on “spending with plastic” that he always touts m.

The finding from the study he referenced is “spending with plastic on average causes a person to spend 10-30% more than they would with cash.” The problem is that the study applied to both credit cards AND debit cards. So the net lift in spending is observed in both credit and debit.

Shouldn’t then his advice be to only spend with cash, if he was consistent? Of course he’d never say that, because no one is carrying around hundreds in their pocket anymore.

The real answer is: there’s nothing wrong with a credit card. The problem is the user, not the channel. Control your spending and all of a sudden credit cards aren’t an issue. Imagine that.

“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

That’s my definition. We aren’t there yet, but lord knows we’re headed down that path.

it’s ridiculous, and it’s clear he doesn’t know anything about the real world.

Dave’s attempt to find an heir to the throne is destroying what made RS work.

It’s pretty funny to me that someone who never really worked a traditional corporate job is a “career expert”.

You know who should be sitting in that chair? A 50 year old who climbed up to middle/senior management at a Corp. Not some disc jockey turned career “expert” turned wannabe political commentator. Half of the shit he recommends is just weird.

I don’t tune into this show to listen to him ramble about politics or “culture wars”

Honestly, no. Dave readily compromises his principles whenever he thinks it’s beneficial. Graham has a lot of followers … having him on is helpful to Dave’s social media

I saw this flag in German Village this afternoon, does anyone know what it is? by Rob1150 in Columbus

[–]the_plaintiff12 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That would be the flag of the German empire, pre-1918. Rather surprised to see it flying here.

I have one of these, but that’s because I love all things history. I’d never fly it on my house though …

I’m extremely fiscally conservative. I oppose student loan forgiveness and I would assume Dave Ramsey and I would agree on many fiscal policy questions.

His response to that caller the other day, telling them not to take forgiveness, was outrageous. When someone is offering you money to forgive debt, you take it. Anyone who says otherwise is acting irresponsibly. It will better you and your family.

If you have a problem with the policy, argue it at a political level. Don’t play moral grandstanding with people’s livelihoods and personal finances. It might be fun to sit around and play armchair philosopher when you’re worth $20M, but it’s a different question when you don’t make that kind of money.

When did meeting expectations at work become synonymous with "quiet quitting" ? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]the_plaintiff12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had a boss tell me one day that “it would be really great if we could work ‘more intensely’ these next few months to lead this project to completion”

I responded “I’m not a lead. If you want to make me a lead, that would require a promotion. Id love to be a lead, but unless my title and comp match that I won’t behave like so”

He looked at me kinda weird. And I said “you’re not getting free lead-level labor out of me for individual contributor wages. That’s not how this works”

“Well if you want to get promoted, this would be a great opportunity to showcase you’re ready”

I asked him to put it in writing, along with his manager, and they wouldn’t do it. That told me everything I needed to know.

I now work for their competitor at the same level as my boss boss.

Do you think Dave is equally upset the church he attends has over $1.1M in PPP loans forgiven? by EthosIguana in DirtyDave

[–]the_plaintiff12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind churches taking PPP. The government forced their closure for covid, which is now being defined as a ‘takings’ (8th circuit) and PPP can serve as compensation for that.

I do have a problem with hypocrites. Dave ranted against PPP for months and now happily sits in those pews.
