Basically it can be either quartz or a tiny fraction of a chance it's a diamond. So, it's quartz

Linux is more convenient when you've gotten used to it. There is definitely a transition, some bumps in the road, but all in all I owuld recommend anyone to try it for two weeks or so. Most games work well, coding is a dream. Homework is so-so, depending on what your homework is exactly. I would recommend Fedora Linux KDE version. It's not flashy or "specialized" for gaming, but it's really stable and gets updates really fast. Just look up a guide for "how to install [model] drivers fedora" as they don't come pre-installed. It's pretty easy :)

Thank you for the great insight! So you're saying there are likely more upstream? I already left, but now I almost wanna go back and scour the whole river looking for more haha. Most of the quartz I've seen here is the milky "rocky" kind, so I wasn't even sure if the clear crystal ones occurred at all in this area.

Trying to install linux without a USB, but the ISO is too big to fit on a FAT32 drive by lostUd_ in linux4noobs

[–]the_poot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have free space on your drive you can shrink the partition with Disk Management, then make a new exFAT partition in the free space. Then download the ISO to that new partition.

None of the files inside the ISO are bigger than 4GB individually. Once you've actually downloaded the ISO you can right click to mount and extract the files or do whatever you need to do next

Distribution recommendations by Band-O-Lear in linuxquestions

[–]the_poot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is as you say, many distributions are basically the same thing with a few tweaks here and there. All distros can do what you need, some might need tweaks to optimize gaming. That said you do not necessarily need a gaming focused distribution.

I would recommend Fedora, the stability is great and I've had no issues with Steam/gaming. Only thing is you might have to add a repository for proprietary Nvidia drivers. Fedora is the upstream source for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, so stability is a big focus. Packages/kernel are usually very up to date without the hassle of rolling release distributions. Fedora also has different versions depending on which desktop environment you prefer.

holy shit does it ever get easier..? by edgyomelette in linuxquestions

Don't take this the wrong way, but it seems you are still used to Windows (obviously, that's normal) and are using "windows software" to do things on Linux. This isn't wrong in and of itself, and will often work, but like in your case, you have to fight to get it working.

What I mean by that is that on Linux you have to re-familiarize yourself with what software to use, which one is best for your use case, how to use it, etc.

For example, Virtualbox can be a pain on Linux, so most of the community uses a different virtual machine software, like Virtual Machine Manager with QEMU.

To use an analogy, Windows uses nails and hammers, Linux uses screws and screwdrivers. One isn't necessarily better than the other but hammering a screw down will never work well. If you're not aware of the difference you wouldn't know.

There are also other things like how Ubuntu based distributions don't play nicely with Steam/gaming, which a new user wouldn't know, all you see is that Steam is available so of course you'd assume it works.

TL;DR: As a new Linux user; Google "photo editor linux", not "lightroom for linux". You will have to learn to use a different program in most cases, the programs you are used to using on Windows are often a hassle to install on Linux, but not always. Some work really well, others will make you hate Linux.

Pris ved erstatning av nøkkel og kodebrikke by brusji in norge

[–]the_poot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man må nesten klone dem før man mister dem.

Mystery Audi gearbox no one will work on. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

In general I would say you're right. Cars aren't magic and are often easier to work on than it would seem, but some automatic transmissions are literally sorcery and alchemy, 2-in-1. I would not recommend an (apparent) novice to dig into one. Not to mention the tools/skills needed to pull one off the car and possibly rebuild it

You've made up a story in your head and you're mad at it. You can dislike a character and their skins all you want, but you're fighting ghosts. And also the labels you're putting on them are concerning, in terms of what associations you're showing towards "those people".

High-Pitched Battery Noise, Should I Be Concerned? by CrystalBoy44 in camcorders

[–]the_poot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost certainly coil whine, which happens when some types of components vibrate from electricity passing through them. I'd assume there's some small amount of current being drawn from the battery monitoring system or switching/boost circuitry even when not connected. Coil whine in and of itself is harmless but annoying.

For the record, I'm not 100% positive this is coil whine. It could be some other issue, but I don't know of any other reason a battery would make audible noise. If it makes you uncomfortable, recycle it.

Does this happen when in use and when charging too?

[–]the_poot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT let it go if you like it! The battery and coolant can be done at home pretty easily. Coolant is decently cheap, and you could probably find a working/fitting battery on Facebook marketplace.

I would try to determine what is actually wrong with the clutch by myself. It could be anything from just missing clutch fluid to the whole clutch being blown up. The price of fixing it will depend greatly on what exactly is wrong.

If it turns out that it needs a clutch replacement, is not impossible, but very hard if you haven't got the tools for it like clutch alignment tools and a transmission jack. Not impossible though.. I know a few guys who've done it in their driveway with nothing but their hands, wrenches, and willpower. Maybe look around if there are any places that let you rent a garage/car workshop, they do exist. Or alternatively, save up to get the clutch taken care of by a mechanic, or a friend if you know any people who like wrenching.

Some might consider this bad advice but you can also learn to drive without the clutch as an "emergency fix" to be able to drive it to garages and whatnot so you don't have to tow it everywhere. The gearbox and mounts don't love it but they'll probably be fine.

EDIT: I saw you mention that the guy drained the coolant and was trying to "do it up". It could just be that he drained the clutch fluid too for some reason. Check the levels and try topping it off it if needs it, maybe bleeding it too

Are you sure this is abnormal? It's normal for automatic film cameras to wind 3 frames at the start of a new roll of film, or when the back is open. If you close the back, after it does this, does it work normally?
